Saw a news report the other day about a new procedure where they can now implant a tiny chip into your child so that if they ever are abducted they can be traced. Obviously it can be taken out at any time so they dont have to live with it forever.

I don't know the cost so I won't put it into the equation here so...

If this was suddenly offered by your pediatrician for a nominal cost...Would you do this?

Only if I could have the little tracking device here at home......

Is she really at her friends house.....:D

hehe...don't think that's quite what they had in mind. I think it would be control by the police or perhaps private investigators...not sure.

nope, that smacks way to much of a violation in trust. Kids need the space to make their own mistakes, its the only way they can learn.

Yes,

There is a watch that will be on the market this fall with GPS tracking ability with panic button also, plan to purchase for my 2 daughters, since we live in very remote area like the ability to track where they are, because both like to wander the woods here on bikes and 4wheelers

You are missing the point...the point is to only track them if they are abducted. It has nothing to do with kids making mistakes.

yes that is the principle behind it, but I can also see where it would be used against them. Some company would develop a device that allowed the signal to be tracked from home, thats why I cannot support this. Plus in a kidnapping situation, what if the kidnapper finds this chip? Do you not think they would simply cut it out?

This is just an matter of opinion, but I see way to many disadvantages to it.

Damn!

As to whether or not I would have my kids chipped....yes I would.

A friends young teenage daughter was taken five years ago...her body found 12 days later.....raped and mutilated.....the coroner said that she had been alive 3 days previously.

If my friends daughter had this chip it may well have saved her life.

I read that the majority of children who have ben abducted and subsequently killed are usualy found to have been killed within 2 to 3 hours of being snatched - so a chip might not really do the trick - though it could help find the assailant quicker - who knows

But it leads on to a bigger questions - we might all be chipped in the future - with our identity and other pieces of information - it is an interesting thought - it could cut down crime hugely credit card fraud , theft etc. Known sex offenders could be traced etc

It is very Orwelian and the maybe a bit scary - but it does have some positive implications -

i've thought about it off and on, i dont have any kids, not even married but I've been thinking about it. I would regret that i didnt have it done if something happened.

I do not have children, but I imagine that if I did, I would be fanatical about protecting them. I would probably do it, but I do see where it could be used to invade a child's privacy.
