About three years ago, I joined the Lit chat community, registered with the screen name "Cherry Blossom" ... additionally, my Lit email is "CherryBlossoming".

Over the course of time, many friends in chat referred to me as "Cherry" (or as "CherryB", so not to be confused with CherryPop, who was also part of the chat community at that time).

When I registered here on the forums, I registered the shorter version of my screen name "Cherry", back in September 2000 (since the login database is different for Literotica chat and forums).

Today, I noticed a newbie registered here on the forums as "Cherry Blossom" since March 8th. I have to admit, it made me feel badly.

I sent her a pm, explaining that it might be confusing to some since many of my old chat buddies frequent the forums now ... and I asked if she would mind picking another name, since she has only used that one for a couple of days ... hoping to avoid confusion, but also to maintain my formal identity.

She feels that if I wanted to keep the name, I should have registered with it ... and explains that she has already made new friends with that screen name.

Am I being petty, or what?

Now that you started this thread...everyone who reads it will realize the difference, and anyone who mistakes the two of you, you can always explain the difference...so it's a minor deal.

I tend to agree that if you wanted that name, you should have registered it.

She has just as much right to use it, and perhaps just as much claim on it as you do. Any confusion that may be generated, should be pretty easy to clear up.

However, I do manage to keep my friends straight.

I can understand your feeling uncomfortable, but don't think Cherry Blossom should be expected to change her name.

Your friends will find you as will her hers. And who knows? Perhaps you will find that she is a good friend to have as well.

So, maybe you are being a bit sensitive. Eat chocolate! IT makes everything better!

when I went to Lit chat for the first time, I registered as perky_baby... there was a girl there named PerkyGrad.

she proceeded to tell me she was the only perky around and to go change my name. I had been known online, MSN and other chats as perky_baby for 2 years.

I told her to fuck off.

it turned into this whole big drama... She eventually got over it.

Cherry, when I joined I forgot the 'THE' in my name. 2 months later (yes i'm slow) when I found out i fucked up I went to change it.... someone like a month afterme joined and used the same damn name.

I got pissed but don't really care much.

Once, when I was chatting at IRC.MSN.yadayada I signed on as Muffin instead of KillerMuffin. The person who usually called herself Muffin was highly pissed off. If she would have explained things politely, like you did, then I would have surrendered the nick. Instead she started the private correspondence "You stupid cunt, that's MY name." So I made that PM public to my wannabe hacker buddies and local script kiddies and the chat wars commenced. I didn't, incidently, disconnect from IRC.MSN.yadayada or that nick for two weeks.
