why i can design a cd cover at home on a nice HP computer with windows me, load it on to a cd, check the cd and make sure that it's there, take said cd to my store where i have a 4-5 year old gateway 2000 with windows 98 and the friggin' picture on the cd isn't there?

can ya, huh? it drives me feakin' crazy.

What program are you using to make the cover? Does it give you an option to include the graphics when saving the file?

What format did you save the picture in? What's the extention? Perhaps the computer at the store doesn't recognize it because you saved it in a priopriatary format only used by the program you created it in.

Is that the only thing on the CD? Does the other computer see anything on the CD at all. Is the CD a CD-ROM or a CD-RW? RW CDs can often only be read by other CD-RW drives with CD-RW software installed. If the computer is really old, it may not have a multi-session CD and therefore can't see any sessions except the very first one. If it isn't a multi-session drive, then update it - new multi-session CDR drives are only $10-$15 for an inexpensive one.

it's just a basic memorex cd-r. i went ahead and copied all of the cd covers that i have designed at home and all of them made the trip except this one. i just designed the cover yesterday and it may actuall be because i didn't merge everything.

as for it being multi-session i'm not sure exactly what that means but it does recognize that the label is there and i shows me the icon and name of the file but when i try to open it it gives me a window that says it can't find the image.

Okay, so it does see the file - it just can't open it. Maybe the file is corrupt. Try opening it at home to make sure. Save it with a different name and try again.

A multi-session CD is one where you have created a CD with some files, but it still has empty space, so you you close the session but do not close the CD. This allows you to keep adding files to the CD until it fills up. Some of the very early CD drives were not multi-session and could only see the first set of files you burnt and nothing more. Most CD drives are multi-session though, and from what you say I now doubt that is the problem.

thanks stg and others. i'm getting ready to add a cd burner to the tower here at the shop and i'll just upgrade the other drive while i'm at it.

This sounds like the "most probable cause." It sounds like it's got a link to an image that you didn't copy to the CD-r with the layout.

You can save a new, merged version, OR you can copy the image it's looking for onto the sytem at work with the same path as it has on the home system so the link can find it.

This isn't going to help....

This isn't going to help your current situation, and I may even make an enemy by suggesting this, but please listen to reason and visit this site.

Flame me, ignore me, blast me into smithereens. Just take a look. It is the best thing you can do for your sanity.

As for your current problem, I don't have a fuc*** clue. I am the King of the Blue Screen of Death at work.
