Hi

I've never submitted a story to this site but I would really love to. I just need some advice.

I'd really like to write a BDSM story from a dominant partner's perspective, as a series of 'letters' to his partner, chronicling the leadup to, and euphoric recall of, their meetings. I can't find any examples of this format and I think it might be fun, tender and sexy.

My worry is whether it's going to make the partner disappear as a person, which is not the point, and also whether it's been done to death which is why I can't find any examples on the site.

Any feedback or guidance would be much appreciated!

It's not done to death.
BDSM stories that are interesting and convincing are in short supply.
Go for it. You won't get the numbers of readers that some other categories get, but probably more than you would anywhere else.

A well-known and accepted technique in the wider world of fiction. Look up monologic epistolary works if all of the letters will be from the single person. I’ve never done one but hey, there’s lots of stories I’ve never written. That’s no guide to live by.

My worry is whether it's going to make the partner disappear as a person, which is not the point, and also whether it's been done to death which is why I can't find any examples on the site.

I’ve never done much more than poke through the BDSM category, I often include light bondage but it’s not been the focus of my works. That said, it’s hard to claim it’s “been done to death” if there are no examples :D

But why would it ‘disappear’ the partner? The partner will be the target and from the sounds of it the key subject in the letters, right? We won’t get the partner’s “voice” but we’ll certainly learn much about them.

I just posted a single story of just over 73,000 words (part of today’s Geek Pride release), and I’ve done a previous one of 60,000 that is rated as H (over 4.5). The audience here accepts and is interested in all kinds of works. (Modulo, perhaps, the 750 word stories )

Go for it. Don’t be afraid to reach out to the volunteer editors (or ask here.)

1-Strt writing, worry about everything else later

2-everything has been done before so don't let that hold you up.

3-Its your story write it the way you want to.

4-This forum is for help and advice, however if you have not started writing yet its not a good idea to keep asking question because you want the story to come out naturally yours not influenced by the opinions of others.

5-When in doubt refer to point #1

In my experience, pretty much every idea can 'work' - just not for every reader. Write it. There's a good chance at some readers will love it.

Good luck. :)

Note: "being done to death" has also been done to death, but not on this site
