Would certain content keep people away from my work?

Hopefully y'all can give me some advice here, because lately, I've been wanting to push my skill as a writer and start contributing my stories to various places.

Here's what stops me though. Very little of my writing is ... I guess what you would call, vanilla. No, I don't mean that in the BDSM sense (although that does apply to at least one of my works). What I mean is sometimes my erotica gets a little strange. Take for instance, the longest story I have is a nigh immortal female hermaphrodite (I should mention here I take alot of inspiration from various works of hentai I see), who adopts a young man and raises him, and begins training him to be a sex slave for her once he comes of age.

Starting to see what my problem is? Not all my stories are that out there, but I do include odd ideas (an overproductive male who's domme personally harvests his voluminous cum to sell to sperm banks). Then there are things as simple as a pair of lesbians enjoying a set of oversized beads (my most current story), or a master and slave enjoying each other during a much needed vacation.

I love to write these stories, and take great passion in doing so, I admit I have alot of stuff unfinished or needing to be editted, but I have lots of ideas at all times and hate to lose them in the endless swirl of my mind. The thing is, due to the mass of rather crazy ideas I get, I'm not sure most people would be willing to digest my material, or give it the time of day. What do y'all think?

These ideas don't sound that "out there" to me, as least not from some of the things I've seen on this site.

The thing is, if they're appealing to you, they'll no doubt to appeal to others. Sure, it's probably not a massive segment of Lit's readership, but your concepts are likely exactly what some are looking for, and others will really enjoy, even if they don't know it yet.

Write and edit them well (beta readers are helpful, too), choose your categories, titles and descriptions carefully, submit, and see what kind of response you get. An author's note with a very brief synopsis at the beginning can help in some cases, as well. In the end, though, it's your opinion that matters; if you enjoy them and have done your best to make them readable, you've succeeded. :)

Yes, some people will avoid your work if they find the subject matter not to their taste. But that's life. Write your stories and let the readers fall where they may. :)

And there I always thoiught that a hermaphrodite had "... normally both male and female sexual organs". Oddly enough, the OED uses exactly those words.

True ... but like I said, I use alot of hentai artwork for inspiration. And what's a popular theme in hentai? Girl with a cock. I was just trying to use more proper terminology. :)

I did much the same, then I sat down and WORKED!

Being a writer is hard work, having ideas is what everyone has, getting them written down; only a few do. Finishing a story is Hard Work. Make a commitment to finish ONE story, submit it and see what feedback you get.The satisfaction just may spur you on to complete the saga of the century.
