For Chanaud !
JAKE
Day one. After working his tail off in both undegrad work at Dartmouth College and his subsequent MBA from Case Western, Jake found himself walking into the lobby of IBM promptly at 8:00 AM, supremely confident in his abilities. An undergrad GPA of 3.7 and an MBA GPA of 3.8 attracted IBM’s attention. IBM was Jake’s first and only choice, it was his lifelong dream to work for the world’s number one high tech company. A recipient of IBM’s highest honor - the coveted Eagle award in 2000 - she was in the top fraction of 1% in sales above quota. Add to that top marks in customer satisfaction, and Jamie was a bona fide star among stars. Jake, you are one lucky son of a bitch, he thought to himself happily. The things this woman could teach him Jake mused. Little did Jake realize at the time how prophetic that last thought would truly turn out to be!
He walked over to security, the burly guard directing him to wait while HR was summoned to lead him into the building’s inner recesses. Passing through the now omnipresent metal detectors, Jake thought the world has certainly changed since 9/11. Completing the HR benefit forms and getting digitally photographed for his security badge took all morning.
Finally the time was at hand. Jake was asked to wait in an all glass walled conference room for Jamie to come and fetch him. Nervously, Jake paced back and forth, rehearsing what he’d say to his new boss. Time passed, Jake becoming more edgy with each passing minute. After a full two hours, the door finally swung open and Jamie strode in...
