The truth: I once knew a fellow who supplied materials to commercial florists in San Francisco. He regularly traveled to the Mojave Desert to gather such materials. He talked to botany instructors at local junior colleges and hired selected students for weekend work. The students tramped the desert to collect specific species of plants and certain types of branches, leaves, cactus skeletons, dried wildflowers, and other plant material, for use in floral arrangements.
The story: Max and Mary barely know each other, although they have been in Daryl Shine's classes of Desert Botany at Mojave College for two semesters. Al Wade came from San Francisco to hire botanical collectors, and Daryl recommended Max and Mary, among others. The students are given lists of materials to collect, and are assigned certain areas of desert to search.
Max and Mary cross paths in a dry wash and together find a rare specimen of a bizarre parasitic Pholisma arenarium plant. This particular specimen had parasitized some strange psychotropic plants, and has built up a stock of strong volatile biochemicals that, to humans, act as a love potion. Max and Mary scent the chemical brew of the Pholisma and are driven into a frenzy of passion. Fornication ensues.
Max and Mary deliver boxes of their collected specimens and materials to Al Wade, loaded into his commercial van. His warehouse crew in San Francisco (including Dave and Delia and Darby, who don't really like each other much) unload the boxes. Dave and Delia and Darby unwrap the Pholisma specimen, scent its chemical brew, are driven into a passionate frenzy, and fuck wildly.
The story traces the movement of that Pholisma specimen (the tale's McGuffin) through the chain of floral suppliers. All who encounter the specimen are driven into sexual frenzies irrespective of their gender or orientation or 'normal' inhibitions. There's plenty of room here for gay, lesbian, group, BDSM, mature, interracial, noncon, fetish, etc types of encounters.
And just before Valentine's Day, the McGuffin arrives at a local flower shop, and the late-night workers encounter it, and yes, fornication ensues. Okay writers, take it from there.
