Words you hate in a sex story

I have several words I can't stand coming across in a sex story:

Mewled: There was a great series by a fantastic writer on another forum that I truly loved, except for his constant use of "mewled" or "mewling." It made me cringe every time.

Cooed: almost as bad as mewled, but not quite.

Rut / Rutted / Rutting: absolutely terrible term for sex.

Crotch: I just had to go back and edit this word out of one of my own stories. It's just a terrible, ugly word and only works if some asshole character is getting kicked in his.

What are some words you can't stand in your smut?

EDIT: Please don't take this too seriously. I'm not telling people what words they can or cannot use.

Member when it's referring to a penis/cock/dick, please use anything other than member. Almost anything...I know there are way worse things than member.

I'm not fond of crotch either but when you are referring to a woman there really is nothing that sounds nice to me. I prefer cunt over anything else but it can sound so crass.

I'm guilty of using "member," but I try to use it sparingly.

"Cooed"

I remember the first time I saw it many, many years ago. That word is so bad, in my opinion. It makes me cringe whenever I see anyone use it.

Dick.

Here in Oz twelve year old boys have dicks. Men have cocks.

America, please stop using dick for male genitalia, you dicks. Just fucking stop, okay? Seriously. Stop.

fucking hell, talk about limiting choices…

your hang-ups are stifling.

write whatever word comes to mind. there’s always potential to tidy up later. this thread is a tad depressing.

I never said anything about limiting anyone's choices. Just mentioning words I personally cannot stand.

agreed. but i can't stand a lot of what i read in the thread. i'm expressing an opinion. and, at least for now, i'm entitled to do just that.

i was put in mind of someone who might be thinking of writing that, when they see some of the comments here, might be stifled as they focus on not using whatever word flows naturally for them.

it's not a big deal, and i'm not going to get drawn into any protracted, pointless, probably frustrating debate.

horses for course and all that. :)

Lol, I don't think I've used rutting before but I have to say I really love it, as you've reminded me. I think I'm going to make sure it goes into a future story, for those really animalistic primal sex scenes.

I can't think of a word I hate. Maybe "inner goddess".

There are few words I hate, and I don't hate any of the words listed in this thread.

Off the top of my head, the only words I really dislike are manufactured words like "utilize," which I deem should never, ever be used in place of "use." It's a pompous, corporate-memo type of word. Only someone who doesn't understand writing would think it preferable to "use."

But as far as cock/dick/Johnson synonyms and the like, there's nothing I cannot stand. Depending on the tone of the story, any word can have its place. I enjoy light-hearted, over-the-top, even tongue-in-cheek erotica, and in those kinds of stories, there's room for a wide variety of words, even those that are on the edge. I can imagine a story in which "love sausage" or "pocket rocket" or "honey tunnel" would be perfectly appropriate.

I've used "dick," "mewled," and "cooed" in stories, and I wouldn't change them. I thought they were appropriate for the circumstance.

To each his own.

Cervix. That’s it.

Anything else depends on the situation. I have no issue with cunt, for example, if it fits the mood. But, I’m aware that American audiences are more averse to the word than others.

Language that infantilises female characters can also be jarring, e.g. tummy and cunny. Then again, there’s an author whose work I adore and he uses them all the time without it feeling skeevy.

At the end of the day, I think you can get away with pretty much anything in the 'heat of the moment'.

I think it can be done. My highest rated story is a romance where the MC's pussy is referred to as her cunt and it was fairly well received.

If it's in character, any word can work. A hard-boiled cynical type who falls in love against his/her will might well use cunt. Brits and Australians are much more likely to use it.

Some words work as descriptions better than synonyms - a woman's breasts might be 'cute little mounds' but 'her mounds' just sounds like molehills! Mound/mounds is definitely a max-once-per-story word, too. Like 'member'.

My pet hates are cutesy works like titties and panties and cunny, which always make me feel the man wants someone under-age.

I recently became aware of people’s aversion to panties. I actually went back and checked work I wrote, realising I don’t really use it. However, I never in a million years thought the term was anything other than technical. I’ve just always known 'panties' as the name for woman’s underwear and that’s what everyone calls them.

Same. At least here in America, "panties" is just a generic term for women's underwear. I've never heard it thought of as associated with an age thing.

Instead of 'panties', I usually have characters wear boyshorts because I think they’re hot. :D What I imagine when someone uses panties are cheeky and bikini cuts. Not thongs or g-strings (or hipsters, which are a more mature look).

I've always considered "panties" a generic term covering all styles and cuts. Then the author can get more descriptive by using g-string, or thong, or boy shorts etc.

My catgirl is always going to mewl. It isn't a word I'd use for a grown and human woman, but when someone's not human... Well, there's a reason "mewling kitten" is a common phrase. Sorry.

That at least makes sense lol.

I had to edit my original post to clarify I'm not out to offend anyone or tell them what they can't use. Just personal preferences or biases lol

Cuckold is a word I believe is often used in the wrong context.

It's seems to be used by some authors in all situations of extra-marital sex, and has demeaning/negative connotations.

But when the couple is involved in a mutually supportive sharing situation, IMO it should only apply when the husband is knowingly being submissive. Otherwise, it's being used to demean a husband in a polyamorous group, which isn't necessarily appropriate. Then the readers pick it up to attack in comments and 1-bomb polyamorous stories.
