The half mile was my favorite event in track in school so when I was flipping around the dial on Saturday morning and it happened to be on I actually watched this.

This event is probably the only event in track in which strategy can play a determinative role.

So I was watching the semi-finals Saturday and I see this white girl with pigtails hanging back in the pack and I'm thinking she's going to do what I used to do in this event. Not sure why but I could sense it. I just knew that was what she was doing.

Sure enough she stayed back just behind the leaders keeping a low profile. She drew even with leaders into the final turn then moved to the outside off the final turn and sprinted past everyone on the final straight. It seem so obvious I can't believe this would still fool anyone.

Apparently she's Keeley Hodgekinson from the UK.

She did almost the same thing today in the final. She was boxed in a little longer on the inside but finally moved out about 75 yards to go and got the silver behind the young American star Athing Mu.

You would think this strategy would be obvious in this race but apparently not. I came up with this 30 years ago. 🤣

Same shit, different year.

More his idea, I'd wager.
