Living in America has shown me there are a lot of women who love my accent. Why is this? It doesn't seem that special to me. I'd like to find out. What does it do for you?

who cares why dude?

Just enjoy the attention it brings and remember to roll your rrrs properly.

So far, during several visits to the States, it seems to have the most effect on waitresses.

(Not a scientific study)

Accents in general are sexy. Perhaps it has to do with xenophilia and the instinctive urge to find someone with genes different from yours to sire/bear your children so they have hybrid vigor.

hmmm, for me, it was mostly free food... :nana:

Ha - I blame you Denali - I think they had all seen Braveheart one time too many.

A lot of people I met, seemed convinced that English is our second language (hmm, thinking about that...), that our men all wear 'skirts' all the time, and that at any moment we would do something incredibly 'cute'

"Say something in Scotch" - you know what the response should be.

And what are you doing, telling that nice man to role his arse?

"Say something in Scotch" ??

I'd tell 'em, Scotch is a drink, not a language.

It does have to do with something out of our ordinary existence, I think.

And watching Braveheart may have something to do with it...it's a mix of exotic (different accent) and the unspoken stereotype that Scotsmen are fierce, proud, loyal, something ...

Or it could be all those damn kilts get our knees weak.

I love accents. I have no clue why though...

French, Irish, Autralian, New Zealand... Bring 'em on!

To be honest, I've never met someone with a Scottish accent. And, since French is my first language, I might have a bit of a hard time understanding it at first... :D

Besides on movies, I have never heard a real scottish accent... But I think that would be incredibly sexy.
It's because it is something different. It's a way of speaking that us Americans don't hear all that often. Thus, it's hot, and it's also why you don't think anything of it. :rose:

Yes, you speak English. The accent is off from what we in America are used to abusing our ears with, for the most part.

For me, it just rubs my nervous system in a wonderful way.

Why is this?

I was brainwashed as a child to love anything and everything that comes from Scotland...but deep down...I know it's the prettiest accent on the planet!

Love Scots!! Have family south of Edinburgh that I see from time to time.

Fave celeb accents would be John Hannah and Robert Carslyle (sp!) :catroar:

Could listen to them read a telephone directory :cathappy:

The accent is delicious, as though they caress each word as they pronounce it. There's a sense of masculinity associated with a Scottish accent (caber tossing etc) that just makes me knees weak.

I have a thing for Highlanders, myself.

If we could just put Sean Connery's voice into one of those erotic books, I'd just faint!

I had one once. Turned out to be a huge mistake. I won't hold it against Scotsmen as a whole though! Have ever since then wondered what in the world possessed me to succumb to him, maybe you guys are right and it was the accent??

For me, it's tons of books featuring rugged, virile Highlanders in kilts. I always think of them as manly and sexy, though with a tender side as well. Then, of course, there's also the accent.

I have Scottish blood running through me, so maybe part of it's also related to that?

Yeah go on then, let's see you in that kilt... don't suppose there is an option for, say, a voice introduction of sorts on this here message board :p

I was engaged to a Scotsman from Perth. When I first met him, the accent made me weak in the knees. After 4 years together, I barely noticed his accent, but everyone noticed mine!!! LOL

I didn't realize that I'd adopted his accent as much as I had until, on occasion, I would run across people who I hadn't seen in some time and they would ask me, "Why the hell are you talking like that?". I'd answer, "I don't know, but I cannae seem to make it stop."

Eventually I ditched the man and MOST of the accent (still have traces of it). Even so, I love the lyrical nature of the accent and every time I hear it, it feels like coming home.
