A "one last fling" before the honeymoon (it would have been before the marriage but work schedules got in the way).
It could also be a May/December romance that was on her "bucket list" (things to do before she kicks the bucket).

There is a party happening in on eof the rooms after the dance and you both go. You can fall asleep (maybe you are jet lagged from a trip yourself but went to the party anyway) or feel sick so go back to your own room. The party moves to her boss's room which is a suite without you but your wife goes. Without you there he is very attentive with her and showing off keeping her there until everyone leaves. He can either seduce her by impressing her with his power or intimidate her into having sex. Maybe threaten her job or even threaten to lie to you and say they have been carrying on an affair.

I hope I won't be criticized for sexism (being female) but she might be at a monthly sexual peak while on her period. The hormonal high may make her more willing to act on her desire to get back at him.

All I can say is some people really cut lose when away from home. Perhaps the wife is traveling out of town...maybe a client or another office of the same company. It should be for the actual holiday plenty of time to deal with relative and cook and clean so she makes a choice to go out and have a wild time. Nobody really knows her at the party and her rings and family pictures are secure back in the safe in her hotel room....
It might only start with having a good time and acting single but it could easily turn into more....

I think a very realistic avenue to take would be a down trodden house wife who has lost herself inside the daily life of married to a powerful husband. But when she dresses up and starts getting attention from men it reminds her of who she is and she could almost become drunk on the attention that was missing from her life
