Barack Obama took time yesterday to assure the American people that this year, he doesn't intend to let little things like Congress, the Constitution, or laws in general stand between him and his fiendish plans. Which isn't exactly how he phrased it, but people with fiendish plans really like to use a lot of euphemisms when speaking.

Declaring that he no longer intends to wait for the legislative process to work (what with all of those annoying elected officials representing pesky citizens, and the nitpicking Supreme Court interpreting the outdated Constitution), Obama announced "I've got a pen, and I've got a phone!" Which he presumably keeps in the same desk drawer as his hammer and sickle.

In much the way steel-drivin' John Henry swung his hammer, lawd, lawd, Barry intends to swing his mighty pen to assure that "kids are getting the best education possible, (make) sure that our businesses are getting the kind of support and help they need to grow and advance, and to make sure that people are getting the skills that they need to get those jobs that our businesses are creating."

In other words, he'll skip Congressional oversight and funnel more money to teachers' unions, create more business-destroying regulations, and authorize more college loans to make sure our young are never out of debt and our nation will never fall behind in the critical production of Gender Studies professors.

Meanwhile, with his mighty phone he intends to personally speak to a lot of academic types about his potential executive orders, thereby collecting the same kind of expert opinions which have made Obamacare such a rousing success. What could possibly go wrong?

All of this is, of course, exactly the kind of banana republic dictatorial powerplay that our Founding Fathers warned us against.

And why they designed the Articles of Impeachment in such a way that any executive who abuses the power of the federal pen might well be sent to the Federal Pen.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

If you read what you post, ("Meanwhile, with his mighty phone he intends to personally speak to a lot of academic types about his potential executive orders,") it appears you are indicating that Obama is going to use Executive Orders to accomplish what he can't through the legislative process.

It is nothing new. By your posting of Obama as Hitler, (or vetteman's of dictator), and referencing his alleged hammer and sickle, you are indicating that the measure of a President's communist or nazi leanings are measured by a President's use of Executive Order.

By that measure, Bush, who had 197 at the end of his 5th year, (31 more than Obama) is more of a communist or nazi than Obama is (166), by this measure.

Reagan had 381 at the end of 8 years... : )

I get it better than you'd like me to.

the issue ISNT executive orders

(and you ASSHOLES were beside yourself when Bush did it)

the issue is THE ARROGANCE of the STATEMENTS

and BTW, LOSER ASSHOLE.....the most EO's under Bushco were in the aftermath of 9/11, understandable!

And you have 5 for him in 2009:rolleyes:

Yes, in 2009 Bush enacted 5 executive orders, all in the first 16 days of the year. One was to create a brand new organization to facilitate US support for Afganistan. In otherwords, Bush established a new organization in the Government, without Congressional approval, within a week of him leaving office.

One of his EO's tried to tie the Obama administration's hands with regard to persons who had been deemed fit to serve in the intelligence community by the Bush administration. It would grant reciprocity to those Bush employees. IN otherwords, if Bush felt they were fit to serve, then any new determinations of their fitness were basically grandfathered in. “I am mindful not only of preserving executive powers for myself, but for predecessors as well.” - said GWB

There were a few others in the first 16 days of 2009. Bush was still president in 2009. Some of Obama's EO's were to revoke or amend Bush's.

As for the arrogance, I shrug and say "meet the new boss, same as the old boss." Show me a President that never displayed any arrogance. Lets face it, you get to the highest office in the world, it tends to go to your head (or maybe you have to be that to get there).

If I have it right, you are objecting to what Obama said, specifically that “We’re not just going to wait for legislation. I’ve got a pen and I’ve got a phone, I can use that pen to sign executive orders and take executive action and administrative actions that move the ball forward.” The reason why it seems arrogant to you is that you don't like him exercising his power. I don't find the statement arrogant, I find it a staetment of fact. Arrogance usually involves some insult to other people. I don't think that statement is arrogant, because he can do that: he can make calls, use the bully pulpit, and create executive orders to move his agenda along. When Obama says “You can fool some of the people all the time, and those are the ones you want to concentrate on,” I would say that quote is pretty arrogant, because it insults the intelligence of people, and indicates that he is somehow smarter than them, and can trick them into following his agenda.

Regardless, Presidents are politicians, and they all make bluster. The fact of the matter is that Executive Orders can't override legislation, and won't. Some of Obama's executive orders were orders reversing Bush's orders. Many of Bush's orders were post 9/11, but all of Obama's are too, so, I don't see why that is so special. Many of Bush's orders didn't have anything to do with 9/11, as he was able to get almost any legislation about 9/11 through Congress anyway, plus more in the name of national security. (e.g., authorization to engage Iraq).

Arrogance abounds in politics because politicians all think they are important, and some of them are. Its like when the Republicans who won in 1994 said Clinton was now "Irrelevant." They found that the President still has a pretty big role in running the country. Republicans relearned that again last year.

Use of expletives and capital letters is not so persuasive. I think you can do better.

Thx for taking the time to respond with what turned out to be

a

Well written and well thought out comment

I agree with everything you wrote

OK

So the bottom line then is?

Bush-WHITE=GOOD

HusseinObama-BLACK=BAD

:D

Sounds kinda racists, so, no, not for me. My takeaway is that Presidents will use EO's and politicians will use bluster to try to get their agenda met, and arrogance abounds.
