I tend to get starchy on the subject, Dillinger. I'm sure it comes of my days peddling books, incense, candles and tarot readings, and answering the same questions at least 100 times a day.
I also tend to be diligent about separating the sexuality aspect from the work because I've had encounters with parents of teenage witches. If you want an example of paranoia, try talking to rabid parents whose kids decide that they are witches, dress entirely in black with lots of pentacles and spew Silver RavenWolf.
It isn't really repression. It's just that pacifying the angry villagers can get very old after the first such occasion.
