Everyone on Earth has a guardian angel to watch over them. Absolutely everyone. But they aren't what you might think. When one thinks of angels, one probably thinks of heavenly bodies with bright white feathered wings coming down from heaven itself. The truth is a bit more Earthly than that. Truth of the matter is that angels are in fact servants of the devine, however they aren't exactly angelic forms of folklore. In fact they exist on Earth just like everyday people, humans that wander the planet with the sole purpose of keeping a watchful eye on the human that they had been charged to protect.

Though they live in the real world, they cannot physically affect the person that they protect directly. Angels have past present and future knowledge of the life events of their charge and can only influence external situations in an attempt to protect them. Sometimes this works sometimes it doesn't. It's a game of chance and hope even with angelic help.

For instance if someone was going to be murdered by a criminal, the angel cannot just swoop in and save the person at the moment. Instead the angel can merely influence the criminal to do something else that day, thus preventing future harm from the person they protect.

An angel can directly interact with humans because they exist as humans on Earth. With one exception. They can never be seen by the person that they protect. If they were simply allowed to hang out or marry the person that they protect then the wheels of time would be corrupt around that person as the angel would know all the bad shit that would happen to them and act to help them avoid it.

In rare cases in which this happens the universe reacts to correct and compensate for this. The angel is first striped of all her powers and becomes mortal. Her mortal body and mind becomes passionately in love with the person that they were protecting, in order to act as at least some sort of protective buffer. The universe basically ensures that the human has a wonderful companion for life in compensation of the loss of a celestial protector. Woman end up friends with their angel's for life. BFF's and all that. Men find themselves a caring and wonderful lover and often wife.

Again this situation is rare.

But it happened to Jake Stevens, a poor computer programmer from Ventura California.

* * * *

Jake had no idea that fate was trying to throw him a terrible situation. It was Thursday night and like usual he was down at a local comic shop for board game night, where he played a variety of different games with his friends. Sure it was nerdy, and the only girl that was there was a heavy-set girl who was way too into anime for his taste.

The plan was to play board games for a few hours then go out and grab a beer at Hooters. Jake and his friends were nerds and the cheap thrill of being waited on by a model was the highlight of the evening. Most of the time Jake was stuck at a desk looking at lines of code and wishing he was at least making a video game instead of accounting programming codes. He wore a stripped light blue shirt and slacks to work everyday, with slight changes in the color of tie he wore.

At the comic shop he wore jeans and a gaming T-shirt. Today it was a giant Horde logo from World of Warcraft.

As he sat in his chair staring at the card in his hand trying to figure out what to play next, he wondered if maybe there was a better social place to go for a twenty six year old on a Thursday night.

"Jake you gonna take your turn while we're young? Seth is going to close up in ten minutes, so let's at least try to finish the game." Casey said, a nice enough guy but he was a uptight gamer who insisted on rules being followed without variant.

Jake shook his head, "Yeah sorry, these cards are bad." He said and work out his turn.

Ella was his first birthday present, one born full grown the day he turned an age the Big Guy determined to guarantee survival, only Jake didn't know it. She was there for teething, first steps, talking and scaring decades off his parent's lives. Until the fourth grade, It was about then that children started to change, break off into social structured groups. Ella was positive that neither of them would make it beyond the tender age of eight, but something about Jake had changed. Ella liked to take credit for it, as she had kept him from doing dangerous and often, stupid things that would've gotten Jake hurt, injured or worse. A success.. Well she thought so, many of her co-workers thought she tamed him down far too much.. It was her first assignment, what had they expected?

Well.. the betting pools had all sorts of out comes on the long list. No worries, they did that to all the first timers, it was not an uncommon habit for the extremely bored guardians to start wagers on the silliest of things.. including whether or not Ella would survive Jake or if Jake would survive life with Ella.. but none were what had truly happened! All thanks to her! She grinned as she sat in the dark corner of an alley not far from the book store. "Predictable!" She tapped her I-pad and ran through the day's events. All was on schedule, running smoothly as usual. Jake was being overly cautious with his cards.. as usual. He was sitting in the standard outfit, mentally debating if Casey was bluffing or not.. As usual. They would go down to Hooters, as usual, and bait each other, dare each other to talk to this woman or that and none of it would rile Jake into doing just that.. As usual.

Brushing strands of brunette locks from her eyes, her reading glasses slipped a bit more down the bridge of her slim nose, eraser between pearly whites as she gnawed at it. Life was structured nicely, and only sixty more years to go and only a few predictable bumps in the road. She was satisfied with her job, her charge and how life was panning out. Nice.. Quiet.. Mundane? Maybe but Jake was hale and hearty! In her job, that was all that mattered. Scanning his life line of events across the screen, her fingertip brushed side to side as she panned through the blips on a single ruby red line. Each color coordinated of course for serious levels. Green, being good of course as it is the lovely shade of plant life. Browns were a bit murky, muddy moments he would need extra care.. Yes, the colors fit. Serious blips for Jake didn't get above a cautious yellow event, nothing remotely grey or even Black until his D. O. D., or rather his Date of Departure.

All nice and neat and tidy.

A close call in '08, if she had not whispered into the bus driver's ear to consider slowing down in rush hour traffic, Mister Jake might've stepped off that curb into ... Anyway, that was her job. To take care of Jake and make sure Jake was there, on time for his departure from the life of man and into his retirement. She had no real notion of what he looked like, clothed or not as when she glanced his way, it was blurred to her. She could sense him, feel his emotions and hear his thoughts. She heard it all, embarrassing or not. Fears, doubts, pep talks.. off key singing in the shower. Hey, no one said it was a glamorous job.

There were rules of course and guide lines, of which one could never, ever break. He could not really see her, unless he actually believed she existed. She was De Ja Vu, that cold tickle down the spine and even a whisper in the wind of merely one's name that caught and gave pause to. She was a myth, a story, wishful thinking or extremist's excuses. She was many thing but she was always Jake's Guardian Angel. Too bad after the age of two, he could not see her again. And if he did?

It was a whispered thing, a legend among the angels about a guardian who was seen, many centuries before. Exiled to become that which he had watched over, erasing his mind of what Angel's called "The Knowledge", or "in the know". There was a more likely event of catastrophic proportions annihilating man kind than a human being seeing their guardian angel any time prior to their D. O. D. Other's saw her, she looked like any human female. She had an ID card, a social security number, birth certificate and driver's license, though she never needed them. They were there, incase... She did not eat or drink, did not sleep either. She read a lot, loved to watch the television and often wondered what Guardian's did to occupy themselves back in the old days, prior to even the game of chess? She lived two buildings down from Jake and same floor as he did, on the same side even but they never crossed paths... that he knew about. She felt emotions good and bad, but some things were not part of her make-up. She never got angry, ever. She did not feel urges for ice cream, sex nor violence. She did not worry, fret, or even have fears.

It was a ripple of awareness in her mind that gave her moving fingers pause, her head lifting as brows furrowed over green eyes. Looking left and then right, she smiled as a vagrant and his guardian passed by, but it was not the pair of them that gave her pause.. it was something else entirely.

*Smile, though your heart is aching*
*Smile, even though it’s breaking*

The ringing of her cell phone cut off her muddled thoughts as she tried to fish for the sudden change.

“Hello?”
“Ella! Oh, thank HIM, I reached you!” the voice on the other end was a little waif of a gal called Emily.
“Something wrong, Em?” Emily was only a few blocks over, by the Hooters building and their next destination.

“I cannot get Harold to listen to me, What do I do?” Em sounded in a panic which was rather odd considering they did not feel such things. Or did they? Ella has never had a reason to panic, and she longed to ask Emily what it was like but thought better of it.

“You can only persuade him in subtle ways, Em. You know this..” Ella cautioned.
“But I think it is bad, Ella...”
“No Buts Emily, it is in the rules. We cannot interfere in Free Will.”
“But Ella.. it involves you-.”
“No, Em. Absolutely not!” She slapped the phone shut, promptly cutting off what it was that Emily had to say. They could not, without a doubt COULD NOT interfere.

Was she trying to get Ella into trouble? She scanned through the life line on her tablet again but had to stop when the guys came striding out of the Book Store, comics not in hand for once. A parade of Guardian’s and young men came striding out, moving to cars.. at least the human beings did. All a guardian had to do was to focus in on their charge and Will themselves there. Straightening her business slacks, blouse and jacket, she slipped the pad and phone into her briefcase and spun the locks. Checking her bun, glasses and tucking pencil into her hair, just behind her ear, she waited for Jake to reach his car before Willing herself to the dark alley between Hooters and some old abandoned fire house.

“Ella!” Emily was there almost instantly. “You’ve got to get him to listen, he is not listening to me.” Emily was looking a little frazzled and worn. A solitary finger was pointing down the alley, towards the street. “Harold has a gun, Ella.” She almost screeched this information in her panic. It was enough to finally get Ella to stop and pay attention.

“Gun?” How had a vagrant gotten a gun? “Is it loaded?” Her stomach dropped to her toes, metaphorically speaking.. She assumed that was what she was feeling. She scrambled to search out Jake and the boys, for confirmation they were on line and in line with destiny.. Only she was not able to get a clear picture!

“… I think so..” Emily clutched both of Ella’s hands within her own.. funny thing was, Ella couldn’t seem to feel Emily’s touch.

“I’m not getting a line on Jake, Em…” Faintly she whispered those words, now understanding what panic was as her system was going insane.

“I’M NOT GETTING A LINE!” Her hands yanked free of Emily, her stride long and fast as she almost ran for the street. This could not be happening to her! Jake had another sixty years to go, dang it!

Casey was a dirty son of a bitch, that fucker had known what Jake had in his hand all along and knew how to counter it. Still it had been a good game night and the best part was just begining. Hooters was just ahead. No last minute purchases were made at the store today, instead they all packed into Matt's shitty Chevy Blazer and rode off towards tits and wings. Of the chicken variety of course.

As usually there was a line in front of Hooters. It was dinner time and people waited eagerly to get in the door. Hooters was one of those places nobody ever cared about having to wait a bit for. The people watching was excellent...cause of all the...well the tits. Jake and Matt joked about how shitty the Bengals would do this year and Casey ignored them because he, like most nerds, didnt like sports. Jake enjoyed an occasional football game here and there but not much else. He prefered to spend time gaming on his computer or with his friends. A big kid at heart really.

After a few minutes the crowd was starting to build up. Making it hard to hear names being called from the door. Jake felt like he was always waiting, always lost in the crowd. He certainly wasnt a popular guy, not a good looking one. His childhood was that of a short kid being bullied on the playground and kept out of the cool circle. In high school he got really into computer coding and that did wonders in preventing him from having any type of social life except amoungst other geeks.

As a result this is what he has become. A lonely guy with a few close friends whos only thrill in life was coming to stare at the hot chicks. God what he wouldnt do to have a nice gamer girlfriend or something.

He didnt notice the crowd screaming in terror until it was too late. "I did everything for you Shannon! Everything and you cast me away like some shitty dog!" A man screamed waving a gun in the air. Jake looked for the guy but people were scrambling away around him amd he was getting knocked around.

"Well guess what bitch? If you wont be with me you wont be with anybody!" The man screamed.

It was then that the crowd parted like a tide leaving Jake staring down the barrel of a gun pointed through him toward what he assumed was a Hooters girl. Jake blinked as he saw his life flash before his eyes. How could he die here? Such a random moment in space and time. He tensed and waited for the bang.

The bang came suddenly and fiercely. Jake cried out in surprise and waited for the pain. After a second he opened his eyes and saw the gunman had been knocked aside by someone else. The gun had fired but the bullet had gone off far wide and Jake had been spared. Seeing the gunman knocked on his ass caused the people to grow a backbone and everyone pounced on the guy.

Jake looked at the person who had been brave enough to save him. She was beautiful, the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. She looked at him in a state of sad shock, tears flowed freely down her cheeks. Jake had no idea that the life she knew was now over. He simply thought the tears were of complete fear or something.

He blinked and reached a hand toward her, "My god....I...thank you so much." He told her.

Casey and matt ran up to him at that moment. "Dude are you okay."

"Holy shit someone shot at you." Matt cried.

Jake looked around his friend to find the woman who saved him but she was gone. Vanished like she had never been there at all.

* * * *

The Celestial looked down upon his angel with firm eyes. "By interfering directly with your charge you have violated our laws. Laws we have issued and enforced for eons. As such your human has laid his eyes upon you. Your protection onto him is now invalid and as such he his vulnerable more than ever. His future is now your fault.
"As punishment you will face the maximum penalty as we cannot let anyone suffer from your example. I hear by use the power granted unto me by the devine God himself whom we serve. I make you mortal! I bind your mortal love and heart to the man you were supposed to save to that you may be there for him in some small way, and so that you may watch him die because of your foolishness. You will not remember us. You will not know this as punishment, yet your punishment this shall be.
"Go now and live your life with him. Be there for him. Love him. Give him what you have taken from him and what you have lost for yourself!"

An overwhelming sense of… something was there, and now.. it was gone. The light made a rather obnoxious buzzing sound over her head, it felt like it was inside her ear, burrowing. Brows were drawn, face was blank of expression when her eyes cleared, blinking rapidly a few moments to try and clear away the bright blotch in her vision.

Was she staring at the light? Seemed kind of child like to do but..

Looking about the small stone tiled room, she could ascertain she was in a public bathroom. The buzzing grew a little louder, ears popping as she worked her jaw a moment. Where was she? Green eyes lower to the bag clutched in her hands, fingers shift and open it.

It’s hers.

No idea why it seemed so strange to her but she knew it was hers.. and yet she opened it up anyway and fished out the small wallet to check for ID. The door behind her opened and noise came rushing in like a freight train. Widened eyes lift to the mirror and door as a tall skinny, top heavy young woman in a Hooter’s logo T-shirt comes in and right into a stall. Slamming the door, throwing the lock, the gal goes about her business and the heavy outer door falls closed, again cutting out the noise.

Jake comes to Hooters on Tuesday nights.

Folding the wallet, she notes her hands are shaking. Trauma. The buzzing grows louder, more obnoxious until a loud POP in her ear releases whatever was there. Sounds no longer as muffled as before, she can hear the crowd and too many voices all trying to talk over each other. Her eyes lift to the mirror once more, her face is pale, eyes too wide.. Lowering back to the hand bag, she stuffs in her wallet, it coming to her just all she carried with her as if someone was announcing it to her quietly, now arriving…

The gun!

Bag in hand, she yanks the door open with a ferocity unfamiliar.. Or so it seemed. Was she going to keep having these odd .. lapses? A wave of heat hit her tender nose, body odors, perfumes, colognes, French fries and the noise level was so much worse, assaulted her senses so much she felt an overwhelming urge to walk right out. It was returning and perhaps it was the shock of it all that had her so dazed.. Jake had been shot at.. She scanned the dining area for him and his buddies, needing to confirm he was safe, living. Her heart thudding in her throat, she scanned thrice before she found him buried in a corner by the crowded doorways. Weaving through, she all but ran right to him,

“You’re alright?” She blurted out uninvited and over the present conversation going on at the table.

Despite the events of the evening the restuarant stayed open. To keep people around they gave out free wings to all the guests and beer to anyone over 21. Jake had to give a statement to the police since he was directly involved in tonights thrills. Though he was really eager to forget, never before had he been so scared.

"Fuck you almost died tonight man." Matt said.

"That doesnt help me Matt." Jake grumbled.

Matt shook his head. "Sorry but man that was intense. Good thing that chick knocked that guy down." He said, "Where did she go anyway?"

Jake shook his head. "I dont know. I only saw her for a moment. Then she...she was gone. Like she had never been there to begin with."

Casey sat back and tossed a wing bone on the empty plate. "Well you owe her a beer at least."

Jake nodded. Crazy night amd it sure opened his eyes to the world in a way. He felt alone now, like a piece of him had been destroyed tonight. Physically he was fine but there was still a feeling of absence. Jake figured it was simply shock and would go away with time. He found it hard to picture himself at work on Monday morning. Have a good weekend? Sure only got shot at once it's all good. Yeah right.

"You're alright?" A voice said beside him.

Jake and his friend blinked and turned toward the voice. Jake's eyes widened and his jaw dropped, it was her! The woman that had saved him, only she was different now. Less....angelic in a way if that was even a possible characteristic. Still she was stunningly beautiful. The kind of girl yoh would see in a mens magazine but never in real life. Her eyes were entirely for Jake, almost like she not only didnt see his friends but didnt even care if they existed in the first place.

Jake swallowed thickly, trying to find his voice. "Yeah i mean i cant thank you enough. You really saved me back there. If you hadnt done what you did i wouldnt be sitting here." He told her, his heart beating faster. Something was wrong. Why did he feel like he knew this beautiful woman? He had surely never seen her before tonight, yet he couldnt shake the feeling of something familiar about her.

A kick under the table brought him back to reality. He quickly cleared his throat and sat back in the barchair. "Can I at least offer you a beer?" He gestured to an empty seat beisde him, "Please have a seat and have a drink with us. I at least owe you that? What was your name again?"

She had never really seen his face before, not sure how come that was though. She knew his birthday, his home address, phone numbers, work place. She knew his height, weight and family intimately! She knew where his birthmark was located and he hated liver and onions… and he did not know her name?! She knew his …

Was she some kind of freakish stalker?!

She drew a blank but sat down beside him when he slid over. Wide green eyes bored into his, seeking answers to all the crazy questions in her head and the fact she knew so much about him but she didn’t know he had a small mole on his throat?

“I uh..” Shaken, thoroughly so. “Ella.” She offered with a small tight smile that did not reach her eyes. “I am glad you are alright..” She said in a lustful tone, a soft sigh following before she caught herself. “I mean, I don’t know what made me do what I did, but ..” Whoa! Did she just tell a lie!?
A tear slipped down her cheek, her hands fisting into her hand bag as she sat there, mutely staring at his hands resting on the restaurant’s table top. She didn’t really notice his buddies were staring at them, nor that the waitress had come to take their order. She felt more than a little lost.

How could he NOT know her name and she knew he used Colgate instead of Crest tooth paste!? Trembling fingers lifted to shove some stray hairs behind her ear, “A glass of water would be nice.” Did she like beer? She knew what beer was, but she could not recall ever having one. Maybe she didn’t? Maybe she did but HOW CAN HE NOT KNOW HER NAME?! She felt her soul shouting at him, anger swamped and made her flush, her trembling increasing but a moment as her hands tightened on her hand bag… and then it was gone, no more anger but hurt was definitely increasing as well as confusion.

Maybe she was a bit off? Crazy? How else would she know him?

Maybe… just maybe, she hit her head and she just thinks she knows him?

“Y-your name?” She bit her lip, hopeful eyes on him as she recited what she thought was his name quietly in her head, a mantra and a sliver of hope she was wrong.

Casey and Matt watched Ella climb into the seat next to Jake, both of them noticed how flustered she looked which was easily understood considering what both of them had gone through tonight. A small smile creeped onto Matt's lips as he thought about it. Jake and Ella even at first glance were nowhere near the same league as each other in terms of appearance. Under normal situations Jake would never get a girl like Ella, but perhaps this little event could break that matchmaking rule though. Matt was hopeful for his friend, Casey never thought about sex or girls ever it seemed so it didn't cross his mind. Casey wasn't gay, but he somehow never seemed to even remotely have a sex drive. Jake and Matt would oogle a girl and Casey would call them stupid and ignore it. IT was maddening.

Jake smiled at Ella and nodded, "Well it is great to meet you Ella. You are a life saver, literally." He told her. The waitress came by and Jake ordered Ella a water and then turned to her, "You sure I can't you a beer?" He offered.

Ella seemed shy, shocked more like it actually. JAke could understand that surely. Hell it had been a hell of a day, and Ella probably was trying to figure out what had gotten into her in doing what she had done. Adrenaline can make people do crazy things without thinking about it.

She asked him his name biting her lip nervously. Jake blushed and nodded, "Of course, I forgot. My name's Jake I'm a computer programmer for N-Gen systems, it is extremely boring so believe me when I tell you that you want to know nothing about it." He smiled trying to be friendly, trying to put tonight past him and her for that matter. Trying to move forward with his life in a new way.

The only thing he learned about almost dying, was that he didn't want to be alone anymore, he only hoped and prayed that Ella was single.

A flush crept to her cheek bones, eyes warming a bit as she settled to the seat. She could smell his after shave, a nice scent. It appealed to her sense of smell, that was a good sign. Did she know the scent though? She wondered quietly, murmuring a soft "thank you." to the waitress who brought her a large glass of ice water.

Her eyes roamed over him, taking in his appearence. Brows, eyes and the flecks of different colors within them. His nose, wasn't too large or too small, his mouth looked like it was just right for kissing. Had she ever? Searching her muddled mind, she was certain she hadn't but the thought did come to her mind.

Did she adore him from afar? Must have, as he didn't know her name at all. Again, she worried she was a freak, though she could not recall being one, how else could she explain knowing him? She glanced up at Casey who was ignoring the world and then to Matt who was grinning widely at her. Did she have something on her face? Skin itching and fingers twitching to search her cheeks, she gripped the glass a bit tighter.

Maybe her apartment would hold some clues? She felt as if she had just woke up with limited knowledge and a past she wasn't fully aware of. It was annoying, to say the least. She wanted to scoot closer to him, talk about the things they had in common. Like his video games, she was as good as he was at most of them, except those first person shooters.. She didn't recall playing them, but then again she did and she did not own any Ps3 or Xbox.

"My Ipad!" She jumped up, bumping into someone walking behind them. "I need to.." She turned and nearly dumped her ice water down Jake's back as it sloshed over the rim. "It's in the alley... I need to go." She said to Jake, for Jake only as their eyes met and hers held his with an intensity. Wishing she could convey everything she felt into him without having to speak or show him.. "It was nice to meet you Jake Stevens." She knew she had funds in the bank, but not how much. She knew she needed a job, but did not know where to look for it. She knew where he worked, ate lunch, ordered take out and the route he walked to get coffee and a news paper on sundays.. Did she have coffee too?

At first things seemed to be going so well, she definately seemed interested in him. Jake wasn't good at picking up on things like that but, something about the way she kept glancing at him but not wanting to be obvious about it told him that something was going right. HE found himself excited to have her here, even if she was being rather shy. Though to be honest with himself, he was having trouble thinking of something else to say, anything that could start a conversation.

Jake glanced at Matt for help but he was only grinning at him. Silently urging Jake to make some kind of move. Not that Jake could or would really put a move on a girl that he just met. Sure she had saved his life, but it wasn't like she was secretly in love with him or stalking him or something.

Suddenly she burst to her feet shouting about her I-pod, and nearly tripping someone behind her. She blushed and before Jake could stop her, she was darting out of the restaurant.

Jake was left looking at the door she had darted through in shock.

"Swing and a miss." Casey said.

Jake shook his head, "What the hell just happened?"

"That was never gonna happen Jake." Matt said, "Here," he pushed another beer toward him, "drink and forget about it. Let's fucking celebrate dodging a bullet literally."

"No I have to find something out first." Jake said shoving away from the table and dart out after her. She had mentioned the alley so he ran toward it, hoping that she would still be there. "Ella!?" He called as he rounded the corner of the alley.

Things were calming down in her head, almost as if a weight was slowly lifting from her she hadn't been away was weigthing her down.. Until she walked the quiet alley and found herself standing in a lamp light and no briefcase in sight. She turned in a slow circle looking about, until her eyes came to rest on a book bag at the Hooter's side entrance.

"Ah, ok..." So maybe she hit her head harder on the concrete than she thought? Grabbing it up and pulling it open, she peered inside. Cell phone, Ipad, gum, pens, spare set of undies.

"Ella?" She heard coming from the street area, foot steps growing closer.

"oh boy.." She turned then with bag in hand and smiled sweetly, a bit nervous as well. What if he didn't like her? It kept playing through her head. "Hi!" She called, lifting a hand to wave him closer. "Sorry I left my bag back here, glad no one took it but this alley is rarely busy." Except for employees coming and going, no one resided back here aside from a few rats.

Jake blinked as she came from the ally. He had expected her to be running from him, like most women did. He never expected her words to actually be true and she legitamately left her bag of stuff out here. Why would she have been out here in the first place though? Only employees came this way, and even then it was only when they had trouble with too-friendly customers. Maybe Ella was a Hooters girl, she certainly seemed built for the part.

Jake uncontrollably checked her out as she approached him. She was absolutely stunningly beautiful, and he swallowed thickly as he realize he might be a bit out of his element with her. "I uh...was everything there okay? Nobody stole anything right?" He asked, moving forward to meet her.

He looked at her and took a deep breath, "Look I know this might be a bit sudden right, and maybe I'm not thinking very clearly because of the post-tramatic stress of the evening. But would you like to go out with me tomorrow night? Grab a dinner or something?" He asked, his heart hammering so hard in his chest he wondered if she could see it popping out of him like a Bugs Bunny cartoon.

Ella Smith

"Go.. Out? With you? You mean we, us go out?" She stammered a bit, blinking. Confused but thrilled both at the same time. A smile spreading across her face, then paused. Did she have anything else going on? Her mind working over that fact in her head, she handed him her hand bag, "Hold this please.." She muttered, stuffing it into his chest and hands, leaving him no choice but to do as she'd asked.

"I have to check my... schedule.." Pulling out a small note monthly calender from her bag, opening to scan for the month and week.

Work - 7 to 3

"Well, What time were you thinking?" She asked, realizing she worked at Hooters.
That seemed a bit out of place to her, in her mind she didn't FEEL like a Hooters girl...

She noticed his strained expression, "I work until three here, would need time to get home, shower, change." She nodded, brows lifting as she studied him. Did he think she was looking for a way out?? His expression seemed to relay that feeling, but the lighting in the alley was piss poor.

Jake clutched her bags against his chest, out of reflex as he didn't expect to suddenly have her bag in his hands. She dug through the bag while he stood there in surprised. She pulled a notebook from the bag and quickly flipped through the pages. Jake couldn't believe it when she said she worked here at Hooters. It made sense based on what had happened tonight, but it felt a bit strange that she had never seen her working there. Although he only came one day a week so it was entirely possibly that he just never came during her shift.

Jake smiled when she asked what time he wanted to go. She brought up all the stuff she had to do before going out with him. However it didn't matter because she was in fact agreeing to go out with him. Jake had a date! He couldn't believe it. A date with a Hooters girl.

It took an enourmous amount of self-control to keep from grinning ear to ear. "Well let's plan on dinner. How does seven work for you, gives you a four hour like....prep time...i guess after work." He suggested, gently giving her the bag back. "Let me get your phone number and I'll give you a call tomorrow afternoon, sound good?"

Ella Smith

"Oh.." Her head nodding absently, "Yes, of course.. my number." Flashing a toothy smile his way, her hands fish back into the depths of her back pack. "It's.. In here some where.." Her tongue sticking out the side of her mouth a moment as she fishes through the odds and ends.

"I thought I lost my glasses..." Mutters as her fingers wrap about the square bit of glass and frame. Pulling out her reading glasses to slip them to the bridge of her nose. Glancing up at him, she turns her full beaming smile on him, "There, much better. I can see clearer."

What was it she was doing again?

"Oh! Phone, sorry!" Laughing a bit nervously at her clumsiness around him. She felt odd, fluttering in her belly, a dizziness in her head and an itching on her lips whenever she glanced at him. Was this normal to react to a guy? Pulling out a marker and a scrap of papers, looked like her electrical bill reciept, she scribbled down her number and handed it to him.

"Seven then?" She asks with a beaming smile, her hands pausing as she flushed a bit more. "Sorry.. I didn't mean to dump all my junk on you." Laughing softly, she relieves him of her bags, stuffing the smaller into the backpack.

When Jake took his seat back at the table with his friends he felt the tension in them. Both guys watched him like they were ready to give him a pat on the back and tell him everything was going to be okay. But Jake looked up and threw his fist into the air, "I got a DATE!" He cried.

Matt handed Casey a ten dollar bill, "Well hell has officially froze over. Jake got a date, with a chick that clearly isn't a fat nerd."

Jake sneered, "Hey fuck you dude. Turns out she fucking works here. Yeah that's right dipshit, I have a date with a Hooter's girl."

Never before had he been so thrilled in his life. Maybe tonight was the eye opening he needed to be more confident in himself and put himself out into the world away from his nerdom. Ella seemed to be just right for him too, sure she was way hotter than he was, it felt like there was something about her that seemed shy and unsure of herself when she spoke to Jake. Like they were on the same page. Ella seemed just as flustered as he was, and both of them spoke in broken sentences as they worked out the details of their date.

Jake got not only her number but her address too, and found it odd that she lived less than a block away from him. It was like fate had planned this meeting all along. Who knows, maybe he and Ella were supposed to meet a long time ago but their paths just kept bouncing away from each other until crashing with a bang. Whatever the reason Jake felt good about what was coming up with Ella, he felt like there was a really chance at something working between them and growing into a relationship.

Man he could picture the looks of the guys at the game store if he walked in with Ella as his girlfriend.
