Winter, it's not there yet but it's coming...

Well today we had a lovely sunny fall day with temps around 14 degrees centigrade, which is warm enough to walk outside without a jacket.

But it won't last, I've seen the signs of winter, grey clouds, that typical sting when inhaling and sitting here at my desk with my feet in woolen socks since it's already getting chilly at night.

I made my preparations: snow tires underneath my car, petrol for my indoor heater and extra blankets for my bed.

The forecast says that it will be a matter of days until the first snow will arrive and I'm ready, bring it on.

Haha, we already had our first snow Oct 29/30. There was still snow on the ground on the 31st when we took the kids out for Halloween. Even in PA, this is quite unusual.

No snow in Indiana yet, but we did have a couple of mornings with frost, so yep, it'll be here before you know it. I'm so not looking forward to it either.

Yup, prepared for winter here. Wool coat, check. Umbrella, check.

Nah...we don't have winter here, it just gets dark and damp!

Gotta love the UK.

Having lived in Mediterranean or tropical climates much of my life, I'm not a fan of winter. But right at the moment, if we could fast forward to winter and the fall leaves were already raked and gone, I'd be game for that.

Leaves are raked (got conscripted to 'help' on my weekend home) and I got all the warm clothes I need, so BRING IT ON!!

We usually mow over the leaves, so they are still sittin' on the ground and falling from the trees. I'm thinking though it may be a good idea to hang the Christmas lights while the whether is still warm here.

This morning I went on a two-hour tour of inspection of our local park to discuss the work to be done this winter.

In the warm sunshine I didn't need to wear a coat. That is ridiculous for early November.

:( ****Sigh**** :(

Having never lived for longer than a week in a snowy place, I tend to romanticize snow, I know, but still...SIGH!...where I am there ain't no snow, not ever. We might get hail if the temperature drops enough, but not snow. And I would love, just once, to spend a month in a snowy place with all the, well, fantasyland trimmings. A town sugar-coated with a blanket of new snow, all the lamps and lights illuminating it, a cozy home with a fire in the fireplace as snow drifts down outside the windows, a hot cup of cocoa....

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. Slush, black ice, snow tires, crusted windshields, shoveling snow, etc. I'd no doubt get sick of it after a month, but still...

:( Sigh :(

I lived in cold weather places for about twenty-five years, and even with all the crappy stuff you mentioned, I still miss it. Winter in warm-weather places just isn't the same. I often think I live in the worst place possible; winter here is forties and raining, or low thirties and ice. Blech.

I once had a house that backed up against old (and now unused) logging trails. The back of the house was all windows, and there wasn't another house in that direction for about a mile. At night we'd turn on the flood lights in the back of the house to watch the snow, and cuddle up with hot chocolate or cider. And the next day we'd put on our snow shoes and follow the animal tracks up the old trails.

It was probably the best year of my life. And I didn't get sick of the snow until March. :)

Most of my leaves haven't fallen yet. Some of the oaks haven't even changed leaf color yet. The oaks might not drop their leaves until April.

Well, shit...I thought this might be about something else entirely.

Who else is missing Game of Thrones?

Winter is coming. ;)
