ooc: I got tired of seeing only closed threads on this board anymore, so this is a "come one, come all" type thing. I would prefer to keep it small, and have the main people post within the first couple of pages, just so no one gets confused or has to work around someone's interruptions. *grins*

Here's the deal: I (Dana) am hosting a wine tasting party for my friends. Everyone is to bring their favorite type of wine to the party, and dress is casual but stylish. If the party turns into an orgy, so be it. *hint hint wink wink nudge nudge* lol

Here's my stats:

Dana
age: 28
hair: shoulder length brown
eyes: gray

Lives on her own in the "Frasier" styled apartment, with a glass wall pointing toward the large balcony.

I smoothed down my long velvet dress, and eyed my makeup in the mirror. Not too much, not too little. Perfect. Turning off the light, I slipped into my heeled silver sandals that complimented the silver jewels at the burgundy dress' shoulders.

My guests should be arriving soon with their bottles of wine in hand. Myself, I had a couple of bottles of Arbor Myst in the ice bucket. It wasn't so much that it was cheap, but I loved the flavor so much.

I finished lighting the candles, dimmed the lights, and sighed expectantly. Let the party begin.

Saryne approached the door of Dana's apartment. She was nervous; Dana was a mere aquaintance at this point, but she was thrilled to be invited to her wine party. Supposedly this was Dana's way of allowing Saryne into her group of friends. She hoped she could make a good impression.

Saryne took a deep breath before reaching out with her freshly-painted silver fingernail to ring the doorbell.

"This is it," she thought. "Here's my chance at getting accepted into a circle..."

Saryne wore a tight-fitting black tank-top that revealed a bit of cleavage - not enough to make her look like a tramp, but enough to give her a feminine appearance. With that she wore a short black skirt and knee-high boots. Her trenchcoat nearly reached the floor.

Saryne's eyes were an unnatural silver, and her hair fire red with black streaks, reaching just past her buttocks.

Dana answered the door, wearing a stunning velvet dress. It clung to her body so beautifully -- Saryne could only hope she could begin to compare.

"Hello, Saryne, I'm glad you came," spoke Dana sweetly.

"Thanks," Saryne replied with a smile. She revealed her choice of wine to the hostess: Chateau Le Pin.

I live in the apartment next door. I hardly know Dana but we had shared the elevator a few times, and tonight as we rode up together, she looked at me over her armload of groceries, smiled, and invited me to join the party

I grinned and asked "what's in the sack/"
She told me the wine she had brought. I had a bottle wityh a cute label "Cheap Red Wine"

It wasnt really cherap but ZI thought it would at least gedt a conversation going, so after I cleaned up and shaved and changed clothes, I went next door and knocked, and discovered that besides Dana, only one other girl had ardrived

As I was getting ready for the evening, my mind began to wander just a bit. This was only my first full week living in the apartments and already I was invited to a party. Dana, the young woman who invited me seemed so excited because this would be a great way for me to meet people.

I had met Dana as we were walking through the hallway and we almost bumped into each other. We had been busy reading our mail and didn't notice there was anyone else in the corridor.

Well, this is it. It's time for me to get myself moving. I'm a bit nervous, but I know this will do me good to be out. As I headed out the door, I remembered I had forgotten the wine I was to bring - homemade red wine…that was given to me as an "apartment warming present" from my work friends. I think they'll enjoy this - it goes down so easy.

As I approach her apartment, I hear laughter and music coming from inside. I take a deep breath and begin to knock.

Joel is not the carefree, partying, type, but he was very intrigued by the invitation to Dana's wine tasting party. During a business meeting at a chic new cafe, he was quite distracted by the beautiful brunette a few tables down. She was surrounded by a few of her lady friends, he assumed, but she seemed to be paying attention only to Joel, or was it just his imagination?

But Joel discovered it to be reality, when she slipped him the invitation on her way out:
I (Dana) am hosting a wine tasting party for my friends. Everyone is to bring their favorite type of wine to the party, and dress is casual but stylish.
He arrived at Dana's apartment dressed in khaki slacks and a blue short-sleeved collared shirt with a bottle of sherry, still not knowing what to expect from the enchanting gray-eyed vixen.

Dana

I couldn't believe that everyone had basically arrived on time. That's what I get for inviting punctual people.

"Come on in, Saryne. There's a couple buckets of ice in the kitchen, straight back."

I smiled when I saw Amy, the girl I had almost ran into down in the lobby. "Amy, it's great to see you again! You look wonderful! Kitchen's straight back."

I grinned pleasantly at my neighbor. He'd helped me out so many times, and we'd gotten to be pretty good friends. "Come in, Lon, come in..."

Next was Joel, someone from my business office. We've worked together on alot of projects. Heck, we'd even gone out a few times, but decided friends was better. Inviting him was a great way to introduce him to some of my wonderful lady friends. Maybe he'd strike up a friendship, or something. ;)

ooc: "Joel," the reason I furthered the behind story is because I can't see myself, or my character, suddenly asking a complete stranger to come to a wine party. As I said in the initial post, it's a wine tasting party for my FRIENDS. I'm not a complete horn-dog who invites anyone with a sack in their pants. ;) Thanks!

Anyone else joining, I need some good friends that I've known for years... and not all of them can be old boyfriends! LOL jk. See you soon!

"Hello, Dana, my dear! Sorry I'm late ... Mmmm, you look stunning!"

She did indeed. She looked as if she was poured into her dress, which was the color of the wine I was holding in my hand--an Au Bon Climat 1999, a pinot noir from the Santa Maria Valley that I have particularly enjoyed. As I knew I was going to enjoy this evening as well--not just because of the wine, but for the company.

I've known Dana for a long time now--but only as one of my ex-wife's best friends. Over the years, we'd gone out together to movies and picnics, parties and the theatre, and developed a certain easy, bantering, comfortable relationship. Perhaps the relationship had a sexually charged undercurrent, but it was one that neither one of us had dared to explore. But now she was single, and so, recently, was I ...

Dana introduced me to the others already present. They seemed to be a nice group, and all very attractive in their own way. The women were particularly so (but then, I would naturally think so, I thought wryly)--a lovely blonde named Amy, and a silver-eyed Valkyrie, Saryne, whose striking black outfit matched my own garb of tight black jeans and a black cashmere turtleneck.

Dana

"Lex, I'm so glad you could come!!"

I slipped my arm around his waist and smiled up at him, leading him farther into the party. After the introductions, I nervously nibbled my lip.

"The others should be arriving soon, but I suppose we could get started. Which wine should we try first?"

ooc: sorry about my delayed posting. Something in real life pulled me away for a couple days. Thanks for sticking with it.

Happens to all of us, TigerEyez

IC:

Sayrne walked back to the kitchen, as instructed by the lovely host, Dana. There she found the bucket of ice. Securely she placed the Chateau Le Pin within the bucket, making sure it was covered sufficiently enough to keep the wine chill.

Sayrne walked back out into the main room, watching the others enter the party; "Good," she thought, "for a moment I thought I was horribly early..."

A girl with long dark blonde hair stood a bit to the side, watching the other guests just as Sayrne had. "Perhaps she is just another aquaintance such as myself," Sayrne thought, approaching the girl.

"Allow me to introduce myself," she started, her natural British accent painfully obvious, "my name is Sayrne. And you are...?"

Stephan Knocked on the door, bringing a wine crocked under his arm "chateau d'hiver" he looked again at the card, making sure he was one time and waited. he had met Dana at a library when she sat down across from him. they had talked about some of the books and struck it off. and now he was invited here. it apparently was to get people to know beter anyway. the door opened and he stepped in. there were a few people here and he wondered if he was late. but Dana smiled and everything seemed okay he set the wine down in the kitchen and looked around at the people in the room.

OOC: Character: Nathan Covenant.
Age: 23
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 140 lbs
Hair/eye colour: Midnight black, mid-back length hair, pale green eyes.

IC: Nathan approached the door to Dana's apartment, idly admiring the stylishly crafted wooden door. He knocked three times on the door, listening to the sounds of talking inside. He straightened out the white shirt he opted to wear that night, the arms were rolled up and the white of the shirt clearly contrasted with his hair. He smiled in anticipation, thinking Dana must be busy. He reached for the door handle, turning it slightly with his free hand, an unmarked bottle of red wine in his right hand. Nathan was left handed. His strides were graceful and carefully measured, he closed the door behind him, taking in the sights of the room.

Nathan honestly hadn't expected there to be so many people, he felt uncomfortable almost immediately. The sight of Dana stunned him, she looked fantastic, her clothing far different than what she wore to work. Nathan had been a friend of Dana's for many years, meeting a long time ago when Nathan hadn't been looking where he was going. Lost in the memories, he smiled, that day he'd crashed into Dana on the street. Of course, he'd apologized, and hadn't seen her since then for a few years. Meeting once more by chance, Nathan had invited her out to dinner afterwards, talking a while and electing to become friends.

"H-hello, everyone.." Nathan silently hoped everyone wouldn't look his way, or at least some wouldn't hear him. He glanced around the room, feeling slightly out of place. There were an assortment of attractive ladies present, this added to his discomfort, and the guys seemed to be already engaged in conversation for the most part. Nathan tried to slip onto the couch unnoticed.

Saryne watched as a new one to the crowd entered, bidding everyone hello in a nervous manner. She let a small smile cross her face as she watched him cross the room to the couch.

Saryne politely cut off her conversation with the girl in which she had introduced herself, and strode over to the man with the raven hair.

"Hello," she began softly. "My name is Saryne."

She motioned to the unlabelled wine in his hand. "May I put that in ice for you?"

Nathan brushed his hair to the side, it had half covered his face as he looked down. He smiled shyly, eyes widening of their own accord as he took in the radiance of the woman before him. Before he even knew, his cheeks had turned red slightly.

"H-hello, I'm Nathan.. Nathan Covenant." He offered his hand, then, feeling slightly foolish, offered the bottle instead. This isn't going well, he thought.."Y-yes, please. It's nothing special.."

"Pleasure to meet you, Nathan Covenant."

Saryne had expected a handshake, but recieved the bottle of wine instead. "I'm sure the wine will be fantasic," she replied to his 'nothing special' comment.

Saryne flashed Nathan a smile and, turning towards the kitchen, walked with the best grace she could muster.

The bottle of wine was placed deep within the ice, along with the others. Saryne wiped her hands quickly upon a towel and returned to the main room.

She came before Nathan. "Alright, your wine would be the farthest to the right when you're facing the long line of ice-covered bottles," she spoke, "just incase you need to find it later."

Nathan repeated the location of the wine to himself in his mind, not wanting to pick up the wrong bottle later on. He smiled up at Saryne, lost in thought as he admired her choice of clothing, along with imagining what was concealed beneath. Once more his cheeks reddened, he glanced down for a moment.

Regaining his normal pale complexion, Nathan looked back up. "Thank you, I appreciate that." Was the only thing he could think of saying, he'd always get himself tongue tied with the presence of attractive ladies. She was so graceful, he thought, and beautiful too. Why's she talking to me of all people?

Nathan absently began to fiddle with his shirt, it was the easiest thing to fiddle with, and he always did that when nervous. "H-how are you today, Saryne?" It sounded lame, Nathan thought, he wasn't good at small talk.

Saryne smiled. "I'm doing as well as could be expected," she spoke softly. "To be honest I feel a little awkward; Dana is the only person I know, and she's busy playing hostess."

Saryne found that things always went smoother when she was honest about feeling a little weird; sometimes people even tried to make her feel comfortable then.

"Would you mind if I had a seat?" she asked, motioning to the couch.

Nathan patted the seat next to his, smiling politely. "Be my guest." He shifted over a little, suddenly very shy from the thought of her sitting so close. He glanced upwards slowly, noting with increasing delight how tight fitting the dress was. Ladylike, yet still very attractive. His mouth practically watered, he had to swallow a few times simply to avoid drooling.

"Y-yes, I know what you mean. I hadn't expected Dana to invite so many people, I also only know her. Well, I know you a little." Nathan adds uncertainly. "It's nice to have someone you know, at least a little, in a party like this."

"Indeed," she replied, sitting next to Nathan. "Hopefully as the night goes we'll get to know everyone -- atleast their names."

Again, Saryne smiled. She watched the others mill about. "I'm just happy to not be standing in the corner of the room silently. Awkward feelings are my least favorite of them all."

She looked back to the handsome man beside her. "So, what shall we discuss this evening? There must be some topic of which we could pry."

Nathan leaned back on the couch, it was cushioned and very soft, he deemed it to be a very nice couch. He smiled warmly at Saryne. "Standing in a corner silently? I much prefer sitting in a corner silently." He laughed softly, nodding in agreement, "yes, awkward feelings are the worst of all. Lucky that it's easier to feel happy."

Nathan paused to consider the topics, another thing he wasn't very good at. He had to restrain himself from answering with the thought meandering through his mind. A gentleman shouldn't ask questions of that sort..

"How about the more mundane things? Where each other lives, things like that?" It was painfully obvious he was having a hard time..

Saryne laughed softly. "That works. Perhaps it will get us on some better subject, anyways."

Saryne thought for a moment. "Okay, I'll tell about me, and then you can tell about you. I just recently moved here from Britian, where I was born and raised. I'm here for work; I dance ballet and do works of art here and there." She paused, "I'm horrible at trying to sum myself up... Any questions to add to that?"

Nathan smiled. "The ballet dancing shows, if you don't mind me saying, you have a great deal of grace in your movement. Oh, you summed yourself up quite well, if I were to ask any questions.. " He trails off, thinking about it a moment. Her British accent was clearly throwing his thoughts aside, that particular accent always had a significant effect on him. He did all he could to resist visibly squirming.

"I suppose I would ask if there is a lucky guy in your life.." Nathan said, unable to stop himself from asking that obvious and inevitable question.

"No...not right now. Since I moved, I've been far too busy getting settled in to think about anything like that. It would be nice, though..." she smiled, watching Nathan.

"What about you?" she asked.

Nathan shook his head, sending his hair out over his shoulders and around to his sides. He sheepishly brushed it out of the way, dipping his hand into the pocket of his trousers, pulling a hairband out. He tied his hair into a pony-tail easily.

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.. " He let a few strands of hair fall free in front of his face, wrinkling his nose as they started to tickle. He blew them out of the way. "Me? Oh, n-no.. There's no lucky 'someone' in my life at the moment. I don't socialise much, you see. Th-that is what you were asking about, right?"

Dana

Dana smiled warmly as she spied Nathan and Saryne chatting amiably on the couch. Sneaking up behind them, she tugged lightly on Nathan's ponytail.

"I had to practically drag him here!" she teased, leaning forward to kiss the side of his cheek. "How's the new apartment treating you?"

ooc: *sighs and hopes nobody forgot she was alive* Sorry....

OOC: No worries, Tygeer. *Smiles* Real Life sneaks up on us all at times, eh?

IC: Nathan, not expecting Dana to sneak up behind him, gives a surprised yelp, suddenly recalling why he stopped wearing his hair in a pony-tail. He leaned back as she tugged to avoid any of his hair being torn out.

He blushed from her teasing, then a lot more from the kiss, he managed a meek smile. "Y-yes, y-you did have to take quite some time persuading me." He smiles sheepishly, "although I don't regret coming. The apartment is going well, albeit slowly. I'm still decorating, and sleeping on the couch while the bedroom walls are still wet with paint.. You seem to be getting on well with a lot of people, Dana. Is there any secret to it?" He allows himself a slight grin.
