cue the Carole King song (because I am playing it now)...

...imagine an alterbate Eartg where instead of monogamy and lifelong marriages, the expected notm is that every day, folks find new experiences by "loving" a fresh partner, or partners.

so the social rebels would be the youngish pair that find love at first fuck and hope to carry it over until the next day, and maybe the one after that...
-do they become outcasts or merely oddities?
-do they start a trend?
-a religion?
-of course they get their own reality show- does it include a sex cam? of course it does, this is Lit.

Interesting concept.

I've always wondered if the world would be a better place if marriages, instead of being "till death do us part," had built-in expiration dates. Maybe a standard duration, like five years or so, or maybe a variable duration negotiated for each situation. At the end of the proscribed duration, it is renewable upon mutual consent. But if either partner does not want to renew, it is automatically terminated.

Possibly this would keep the partners from taking each other for granted? I don't know if it would be better or worse, but it seems like a concept worth considering in fiction.

I often thought the same, but the assignment of parenting would be exponentially more complex, with multipule blended families- which on Lit just inreaes the potential hilatity when lovers discover they are siblings, or at least cousins...
