So the King of Spain told Hugo Chavez to shut up.

Thank you.

Now I am gonna freak some of you out......but chavez has turned around the economy and society of Venezula. I DO NOT agree with his politics....but he has repaid the debts of his country and is inspiring other south american countries to become "independent" from the current worldwide financial arena.

He is sitting on what is probaby the biggest oil reserve in the world....bigger than the Saudis. WAAAYYY bigger.

He has implemented educational reforms that will hopefully make illiteracy a thing of the past in his country.

But he has taken away the freedoms that most affluent people in his country know.

Jesusfuckingchrist....this man is insane.....but he has turned a third world country into one that may become one of the most important in the centuries to come.

Just saying.

Your post makes me think of Ty Cobb the ball player. Cobb was one of the best ball players in the history of the world, and he was psychotic.

On one occasion he was playing outfield and a fan was verbally harassing him from the stands. Cobb climbed over the fence and beat the crap out of the fan. The fan had no arms.

Cobb was a holy terror on the field.

I think that if a manager told an upset Cobb to chill-out and take a powder, the advise would be appropriate.

Misty, what you say has the ring of truth.

Chavez may be a nut job, but his country is prospering and the people there apparently love him.

We have our own nut job running our country but he has a 25% approval rating. That means that 3/4's of Americans don't like how things are going.

I guess some nuts are better than others.

Oh, I think whoever put this gloss on events is either reading too much of Hugo's propaganda or perhaps helping to write it. All that's happening there is that the country is riding a wave of high oil prices. If it were not for the curse of the oil subsidy Chavez would already be long gone, but sadly, as with some mideastern despots, having his hands on that multi-billion dollar revenue stream could prop him up for a long time. It's a terrible tragedy for the people of Venezuela.

Agree totally, Roxanne.

The worst thing is that $94 oil is not the fault of China or lack of OPEC output. There is no real shortage. It is just the futures traders in New York and London that are getting very rich playing the markets whilst transferring a great deal of Western wealth to unsavory regimes.
