I think its a matter of time before Christmas is completely pushed into the closet and purged from public life.

Considering how liberal young people seem to have become, could this year be the year that the anti-Christmas movement reaches critical mass and is able to force the holiday behind closed doors and out of public view?

Christmas will always be around because so many people make money off of it. I wouldn't worry about it. It's to commercialized to disappear.

Even the most liberal of young people enjoy getting some time off school and work. Toss in a present or two and it is a holiday.

There is no war on christmas. People become more educated and are less inclined to believe in the fried spaghetti monster. You believe and worship the things you feel are true and important. I will do the same. We can both take a week off sometime around the first of the year.

I'm disappointed that this is not a poll.

;) ;)

Poll your friends. Ask if they say 'happy holidays' or Merry Christmas.

If a lot of them prefer the former, well you make the inference...

Even if they ban the terminology and the symbols, there will still be a winter holiday of some sort with presents and a new inclusionary mythology to go along with it just as Christianity coopted pagan holidays...

Some of my friends use 'Yuletide Greetings' :)

Christmas was lost years ago to commercialization. Now it's just petty squabbling over terminology.

Fahoo fores dahoo dores

Anyway, as long as no one bans kissing under mistletoe, I'll be happy. And don't take away my day off, much thanks.

I would not take anything away from your day off. That would not be a great grinchy trick.

I like an end 'O year celebration. If only we could get rid of all the religious nonsense.

We wouldn't want to offend our Muslim friends now would we? They don't want to see any signs of Christianity. Just as they expect our culture to change for them.

What war on Christmas?
Every year in America, Christmas goes to war against society. Starting from the churches, it moves into shopping malls and public squares until eventually it causes a government shutdown.

You said it, Bigsplurt! This is a Christian nation, dammit!!!

We took it from those damn red savages, used those damn primitive savage blacks to build it and it was all due to the grace of God!!! Those dirty damn Muslin savages will have to take our culture away from our cold dead American hands dammit!!!

*slams fist on desk*

A very Merry Christmas to all the gun-totin' Fox-watchin' right-wing Bible jocks! Keep finding new enemies, and keep imposing your views on those infidels. After all, it's not enough for you to be free to celebrate Christmas with your fellow believers-- everybody else at work, in public schools, in the streets, and at public gatherings should also be required to speak the language and follow the prayer rituals of the only true religion. The baby Jesus would be so proud of you! Besides, there are no other religions that have celebrations during the winter.

But damn, now these other "true religions" want to enforce their beliefs in the public sphere. Gee, that one over there says I can't even draw a cartoon of their idol, and that cult down in Florida says they will sue me if I say anything critical about their leader, and this other one says meat should not be served at the party in the school cafeteria, and now this Satanic group wants to offer their solstice invocation at beginning of the County Supervisors' meeting.

Gosh, how can the atheists and the less obnoxious religious groups get a break during Santa's most wonderful time of the year? What about that Constitution? Oh, now you say the Constitution only applies to your right to bear arms so you can defend yourself from infidels. Well, hell, if you tell me to say it at gunpoint, all I can do is open my window and shout, "A Merry Christmas to all, and to all, a goodnight!"

It's not even Halloween yet and urber Liberhul Target already has like 9 isles of Christmas shit out.

What the fuck kinda crack are you smoking???

Stop smoking Drain-O

If it's happening inside of a Target store, then it's out of public view, or at least my view.

Obviously Christmas isn't going anywhere as it makes too much money for our corporate overlords. That said, there most certainly is a war on the term "christmas". An excellent example is the NYC school system, which names specific holidays for Muslims and Jews but none for Christians. I suspect the true purpose is to further acclimate us towards a global society, so we promote the traditional religions of others while suppressing our own. From a religious standpoint I don't really care as I am an atheist. But from the viewpoint of retaining National sovereignty, it is disturbing.
