Will Iran Fall

I don't know and refuse to speculate because what Syrian courts could/would do isn't within my sphere of legal knowledge.

All I can say is that he might have been convicted of something and sent to prison, but at least he could have understood the language and customs.
 
At this point, Iran falling is like betting on a whether a drunk falls dace-first into the gutter or on the sidewalk.

Still, a short trip to 'You'reFuckedIstan' seems likely.
 
It is highly unlikely the Islamic Republic will fall without foreign intervention.

Iran’s supreme leader sets stage for harsher crackdown as protest movement swells

Iran’s supreme leader has vowed that authorities will not back down in the face of a rapidly growing protest movement, setting the stage for an intensified violent crackdown on the second day of a nationwide internet shutdown.

Protests have raged in cities and towns across the country in recent days, posing a threat to the authority of the regime, which has been significantly weakened since the last large protest movement in the country in 2022. Another round of demonstrations was called for Friday night.

In his first speech since demonstrations started on 28 December, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei described protesters as “vandals” and “saboteurs” and accused them of working on behalf of foreign agendas.

Protesters were “ruining their own streets to make the president of another country happy … because he said he would come to their aid”, Khamenei said, referring to Donald Trump who has threatened American intervention in Iran if authorities kill protesters.
 
You know, Iran could as easily have gone Communist in 1979. Communists were involved in the revolution. But in the end, the mullahs sidelined them.

It was all very chaotic. As Rick Perlstein wrote of the hostage situation, it was not even a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing -- the FINGERS were not in communication.
 
First - I support the change of leadership being pushed by the people of Iran

With that out of the way - should we strike Iran and what are the benefits/drawbacks of doing so?

Also, will the administration support the people's choice of new leader or would we push for different leadership as we have on Venezuela?

Leave it up to the Iranians. If they want international help, Israel would be more than willing. Trump will just fuck it up if he gets involved.
 
Thousands marched in L.A. today in support of a free Iran. Lots of royal flags being waved. Lots of pictures of Reza Pahlavi and chants of his name. I even saw a few Israeli flags and the flag of the Sassanid empire which was a deep cut. Very peaceful. Lots of families with kids and old people who would have been around in ‘79.

The only violence was when some idiot drove a truck through the police roadblocks and hit a few people. The men in the crowd piled on the truck, ripped open the door and pummeled the driver. The last I saw, the police took him in custody. No idea what his deal was.
 
The situation presents a lot of horrible possibilities, even prolonged civil war, but there is reason for hope. Up to now, Iran has been usually more or less stable as a theocracy with democratic elements. Elections are fair but not free -- that is, the votes are counted honestly, but only candidates approved by the Guardian Council are allowed on the ballot. If that control is removed, what remains is simply a functioning democratic republic they know how to run.

Of course, Iran's ambitions of regional hegemony would remain.

Also yesterday Iran successfully launched an intercontinental ballistic missile, traveling some 8-10 thousand miles landing in a remote area in Russia...this missile can reach the lower 48...and is nuclear capable...

Iran Revolutionary Guard commander says ‘finger on the trigger’ as US ‘armada’ heads toward Middle East
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard commander on Saturday said the country has its “finger on the trigger” at the U.S. after President Trump said an “armada” will head toward the Middle East.

“The Islamic Revolutionary Guard and dear Iran stand more ready than ever, finger on the trigger, to execute the orders and directives of the Commander-in-Chief,” Gen. Mohammad Pakpour said according to Nournews, a news outlet with ties to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
Pakpour also warned the U.S. and Israel “to avoid any miscalculation.”

On Thursday, Trump told reporters on Air Force One that the U.S. is sending an “armada” to the region in response to Iranian troops cracking down on massive anti-government protests. The U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency stated on Friday that over 5,100 Iranians have been killed as part of the crackdown.

Trump said he stopped Iran from executing 837 people, having previously warned the U.S. will take military action if people were killed. He urged demonstrators in Tehran to “take over” the country’s institutions in a Truth Social post, where he also announced that he called off meetings with Iranian officials.
