Will AI porn ruin us?

I've been keeping up with developments in the AI space (VERY much 70,000 foot level, as I'm not smart enough for all the tech details) and I'm curious if anyone thinks AI porn will have unanticipated and outsize effects on society.

In many technological advances, porn has been at the forefront. Phots, film, TV (cable), the internet, etc. AI is no different. But could it have an outsize impact on society like:

1. Making people less willing to date/establish real relationships etc. because their AI SO does anything and all for them?

2. Does #1 lead to more loneliness, depression etc?

3. And does this in turn lead to less births, exacerbating an already declining birthrate problem?

4. Will AI porn even further skew the expectations of what sex should be (in all aspects)?

What are your thoughts?

I haven’t been keeping up with the porn side of the house on AI, but the deep fakes I’ve seen with politicians and celebs are downright jaw dropping.

From a content perspective, I can see where initially this will/can be popular. It will possibly put the final nail in the coffin of the film porn industry. Why pay actors when you can just AI the scene?

To your points, I think it will only exacerbate the dwindling birth rate problem. As for skewing expectations? That’s already happening in my opinion and AI will only further that.

Good thread!

Large Language Models are still a long way from any type of intelligence. The AI label is just marketing. LLMs need an excellent sales pitch to pay the huge electric bill. Replacing labor with software could save some money for a while, but for a much lower quality of product. If LLMs completely replace porn for a while, then the real porn that eventually returns could be entirely off the internet, in magazines and live performance.

I see some legal hazards, with LLM porn showing what can't be done legally with live humans. An LLM cover may be applied to real criminal acts as readily as an animated act is made to look real.

I think the current impact of porn will continue. It'll hit creators harder especially OF peeps and actors.

It's going to eventually be indistinguishable from real people. It's not just the porn industry that's going to be taken over. Mainstream Hollywood is in trouble too.

Will AI porn ruin us? Nah. But will it reshape us? Absolutely. A Anpocalypse-lite checklist

1. Will people ditch real relationships for AI SOs?
Yes, for some. We’ve already seen it happen with sex dolls, cam sites, and dating apps where people ghost more than they connect. AI SOs just make the fantasy frictionless: no rejection, no emotional complexity, just ‘yes, daddy’ on demand.

2. Will that lead to more loneliness and depression?
Ironically, yes. The thing that promises constant company might deepen isolation. Why? Because connection without vulnerability is like sugar without nutrition, it tastes good, but it doesn’t feed you.

3. Will it hurt the birthrate?
Possibly. AI lovers don’t need diapers, daycare, or college funds. As more people opt for comfort over commitment, the ripple effects on demographics could be real, especially in already declining populations.

4. Will it mess with sexual expectations?
Already happening. If sex dolls gave us unrealistic bodies, AI porn might give us unrealistic personalities. Always ready, always into you, never has a headache. It might create a whole generation expecting ‘press to please’ intimacy and real humans don’t come with patch notes.

So no, AI porn won’t destroy humanity. But it might make us forget how delightfully messy, unpredictable, and worthwhile real human intimacy is and that? Could be the real loss.

After reading that Education Secretary Linda McMahon mistakenly referred to "artificial intelligence" (AI) as " A1...the steak sauce...I wondered if sales of silicone lube went down and genital burns went up

There are some youtube channels I like, but I stopped browsing for anything outside of those channels. Nearly all of youtube is empty AI clickbait. When the novelty is gone, youtube and many more sites may discover they don't have viewers left.

AI porn is still just porn. Did internet porn cause a drop in birthrates or stop us from having real life sex? No.

If we ever get to the point where robots can behave and appear in ways that trick all our senses, then those scenarios might be worth considering. For now, this is just another entertainment tool - and porn will never be as rewarding as physical contact with another (human) being.

It's the best thing ever for incels, now they really don't need a woman who would never want them anyway.

Then they'll complain women don't want babies while they whack off all day to fake women.

The bad news for them is AI learns as it goes, so pretty soon they'll realize how pathetic men are too.

AI porn is going to fulfill a niche, that much is certain. You will be able to get exactly what you want, you will get to see your favorite actors do what they would not do willingly. Just pick your own must disturbed fantasies and imagine seeing them on PornHub.

However, I also foresee and increase in personalized connections. Just like the Internet brought real time interactions with camgirls along with the tube-sites, so AI will drive the search for genuine and authentic interactions with the performers. I am convinced that many viewers will want to know that it is a physical girl performing in real life, that the pussy was and is real. And, more importantly, that there is a real brain inside that head. There is something important in that it is a real girl who spreads her legs for the camera and exposes herself and her most private parts to the world that no AI-generated image can replicate.

So, there will -- thanks to AI porn -- be a market for verification that the performers are real.

But didn't OF just get outed that some of the "real girls" you're talking to are actually guys, even centers of guys in the Phillippines reading off scripts and getting bonuses for sucking in guys to pay for more? Sometimes it's the OF girl's boyfriend. I don't think most users of online sex care if it's AI as long as it looks normal enough and any verbal responses are also normal enough. The tech that will drive movies to use AI actors will move into porn and increase the acceptance of it. Those wanting to talk to an actual person will either have to find a real person to play with online or pay a premium for that (I would monitize the hell out of it). The big money will be in more automation and less money to pay for people.

Indeed. As I wrote above, it will be a bit of both. A bifurcation, if you want. Along one branch, only the fantasies of the viewers will set the limits, along the other verification and real physical girls will be the thing.
