So I went for another ride today. It was grey, it was windy and it was cool. (A high of 70 degrees.)I'm wearing my helmet, my leathers are zipped up and I have my usual gloves on.

I'm out cranking along and having a good time. The speed limit is 50MPH and I'm getting blown around a bit. I lean into a nice curve and about halfway through it I see a bike on it's stand on the side of the road. The rider is squatting down next to the bike working on something.

I keep going through the curve and when I have the bike straightened back up I pull over until I have an opening. I turn around and head back to see if I can help. The guy looks up when I roll up behind him and shut down my bike. Pulling off my helmet I hang it on the bars and walk over to where he is. I ask him what the problem was and he told me the bike had just lost power and shut down.

Well I checked the obvious things first. I made sure he had gas and his fuses were good. Everything looked good. Then we started checking wiring. Finally after a couple of minutes we found it. One of his ground wires had corroded and the end of it had actually broken off. The guy wasn't happy, he didn't have a way to fix the problem. I just told him to go back to my bike and grab my Multi-Tool out of the cargo box. As he did this I stretched the wire out a bit and pulling my pocket knife I stripped an inch clean.

Using the Multi-Tool I loosened the screw that originaly held the wire and after cleaning it up I pig tailed the now exposed wire to it before tightening it down again. The guy turned the key on his bike and voila he had power again. I waited for him to crank his bike over and smiled when it started right up.

Her watched as I pulled on my helmet and gloves and started my bike. We checked traffic and headed off. At the next intersection he waved as he peeled off.

No I didn't know the guy but.
He is a rider.
He had a problem.
He was on the side of the road.
I have been there too.
I have been helped by other riders.
I repay the favor and hope he does as well.

On the way home the skies got even darker. I pulled onto the main road leading to my park and the skies opened up. I had less than a mile to go to get home. The rain was pelting me, believe it or not it actually hurt through my leathers. By the time I got home I was soaked. (The only part of me that was dry was my head.) My neighbor watched me pull in on the bike. He just shook his head. I smiled at him as I opened the cargo box and pulled out my cell phone and the 12 pack of beer I had stored in there. What the hell, it had been a fun ride and I did get my beer.
