Wikipedia to black out in protest of ISLAM!

Okay, not really. This is just me editing the thread to be semi-obnoxious.

HR 3261, the Stop Online Piracy Act (or SOPA) is facing more and more opposition from people who say it will have ramifications beyond simply looking out for copyrighted material.

I happen to agree. What about you?

Damn it, I knew I should've made it about Islam somehow.

*bump*

Hey, if nothing else it can be PSA about wikipedia's upcoming outage.

I had read that one or two of the major networking type sites might pull a "withdrawal of services" to draw attention to their disapproval of this legislation. Thinking about it it seems appropriate that Wiki give it a try as it would be less disruptive and not hurt their revenue stream.

I am unsure of exactly what the consequences of this legislation would be but I think it will somewhat cripple the flow of information under the cover of "intellectual property". This is what the major social/information sites seem to think.

I live in Canada and every once in a while I will try to pull up an article and get a little sign that says "This article not available in your country". Granted this is a rare event and no big deal once in a while but if it starts happening all the time I would be choked for information.

I imagine that the "cause" of this is that our intellectual property/copyright laws are not considered up to speed or possibly don't even exist. It's not like I intend to do anything with the article aside from reading it. If information is withheld under the assumption of theft or misuse constriction is a very real danger
