I think this is the only way to go, its the only way to go to make it believable and nonsensational.

Simple, the woman loves her husband enough to do what ever it takes to make him happy. Add to this, the husband knows that his wife has contact with the one person who can help in realize his dream. The husband is pressuring the wife to talk to the guy.

resolution:
The husband finds out what the wife did to help him, and the husband tells the wife that no matter how important his dream was to him, she means a lot more.
