PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A mother and father may be charged after a carjacking in North Philadelphia. Police say the couple and a group of people beat the alleged suspect so badly on Thursday night that he later died in what people from the neighborhood called “street justice.”

The victim has been identified as 54-year-old Erik Hood. Police say Hood had at least 30 prior arrests with many of them narcotics related.

After the children’s father got Hood out of the car, others in the neighborhood joined in and started beating and kicking Hood. He later died in the hospital.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Police say a man killed a suspect who carjacked his girlfriend outside of a North Philadelphia pizza shop on Thursday night. The couple’s three young children were inside the stolen vehicle.

It happened near 29th and Dauphin Streets.

Police say the 25-year-old woman left her car running with three children inside when she went into the pizza shop, where her 25-year-old boyfriend works. That’s when the 54-year-old suspect got in the vehicle.

The couple was able to chase down the vehicle, which police say got stuck in traffic at 29th and York Streets. They pulled the suspect out, who then fled the scene on foot. Police say the boyfriend caught up with the suspect when he and other men from the neighborhood began to punch and kick the suspect.

Charges are essential and they all should be convicted and jailed.

Once the car was recovered, the kids safe and the dirtbag fled, that should have been the end of it. Chasing him down after that was wrong beyond trying to detain him for arrest.

What would you want the charges to be?

I would be surprised if there were no charges but I was wondering from a prosecution standpoint what you think the charges would be. But if it is true that he took a car and some kids the world is now better off without him. If he had lived I wonder what charges he would have faced and how long it would have been before he was out causing more harm?

Was this Mark Wahlburg’s most recent movie or the one before that?

Or is it a Donnie Wahlburg netflix d list movie?

Reporting on an incident usually gets ahead of the legal paperwork. It's no surprise that a news report will not report something has been charged before the paperwork has gone through to do that. It's being accurate and not prejudging, which can taint the trial. It's not the news media that should be leveling the charges.

Yes, responsible media, as the OP is citing and complaining about. Not Trump's.

That's just partisan sourgraping, just like when the other side hounded Hillary about Bengay all those years.

Great mom!

Sounds to me like he died resisting a citizen arrest on felony charges. No jury in the hood will convict.

Chasing him? Not a crime. Dragging him out of the car? Not a crime. Chasing him on foot? Not a crime. Hitting him? Maybe a crime, depending. The last few blows that killed him? A crime. How are you going to differentiate who hit him, when?

I see one of CNN’s 12 viewers is on this thread😂

It's so cute that you think you have them counted. So typical of the mental ability of a Trumpette. :D

Let me guess. Trump gave you that number and you immediately swallowed it.

Using whatever force is necessary to effect a lawful arrest.;)

And there’s another CNN subscriber making his appearance.

Funny how the supposed "law and order" crowd are excusing and embracing vigilante justice that resulted in a death.

Killing a suspect is a crime. But let some immigrant just try to apply for amnesty and they want him shot on site.

Fucking hypocrites.
