Why?

Opening Dill's threads

Because I always come away with food for thought...

The rest? Well, I'm too verbose this morning, yeah, Go Figure! :D

raindancer said it better than I could, anyway. :D

Answering a 500 word post….

Why did you open this thread? Was it because of the title? Did someone recommend it? Because of my name associated with it?

When is there a Dillinger post not worth opening?

Why at this particular time on this particular day did you open this thread? Why are you even at Literotica today?

I’m at Lit because it’s early, the coffee is tasty…and the words are delectable today.

How did you find Lit in the first place?

I was looking at virtual communities to write an article for an adult site about sex and interactive virtual communities.

Why did you decide to stay at Lit? Why are you still here at Lit? Did you ever think about leaving? Why do you have so few posts?

I stayed because I found myself enjoying just being a user, a player..a member of something akin to a village. I never go over 2 posts a day in my average. I think one has to keep a check on the addiction factor this place brings on.

Why do you come to sites like this? Why do you log on to the internet?

A computer has been logged into the Internet in this house since 1991.

Why are you reading this on this particular computer? In the room that you're in?

My computer…my husband bought me as a Birthday present two years ago…which is in my room; merrily located in Los Angeles.

Why is this planet capable of supporting life, and why did it produce the kind of life that would ask questions like this?

Because the Gods tend to have an odd sense of humor?

I'm one of those 'accidental people' born of a marriage due to 'accidental circumstances' that lasted way too long. They met in high school, got married after graduation, had four kids, of which I'm the third.

I came to Lit after a web search for erotica, posted a story, and hung out in the chat rooms briefly. A friend I met in there recommended the How-To board to me, and I posted one post there, then found the GB.

My first post ever was on the HTB Post # 1 . It's on a thread titled swallowing. lol ;) My first actual thread was one of those that irritates the hell out of me now... 'Woo Hoo, I lost my virginity'... perhaps there's something I should learn from that.

I'm posting to this particular thread on this particular morning because you told me to Dilly Darlin. :p But, I'm at this computer because I'm staying with a friend, and I'm staying with her because I don't see her nearly often enough and I happened to be in the area because I was at a class this past weekend, and I was at that class because I think the guy giving it is the best horse trainer on the planet. *deep breath* Aren't you glad you asked?

I'm sure, someday I'll leave Lit. For now, I'm here because I need what it offers me. An outlet, adult conversation, variety in my human interactions, stimulating thought, and people who're perfectly willing to tell me when i'm acting like an idiot without making me feel like I AM an idiot.

I'm not longer in close contact with the first real friend I made online. I still think about her, and we chat online now and then, but we don't call each other everyday, and we don't send rapid-fire emails anymore. I miss her, but I think the time for our friendship came and went. It's sad, in a way, but I don't think all friendships are of the forever kind.

How can you ask a question like this one Dill and then tell us not to wax metaphysical?

Why is this planet capable of supporting life, and why did it produce the kind of life that would ask questions like this?

No fair!

I like to eat at the Y...

I like why questions.

"Fish gotta swim
Bird gotta fly
Man gotta ask himself
Why why why?

Fish gotta ____
Bird gotta land
Man gotta tell himself
He understand."

I'll start with the easy bit - I open all your threads, Dillinger. And it was at the top of the list.

To go to the hard bit. The ultimate question is "Why is there something rather than nothing?" The question is one which is meant to be felt rather than answered

The modulated difficulty of the questions makes it a Bollero of a thread - which is the porn element.

I'm sure I'll return to it.

Exactly... the questions move from the simple to the difficult. I love how you describe it as a bolero.

This is actually based on a mind expanding excercise which helps give a person a sense of context. We take so much for granted and seldom, if ever, realize what a real miracle it is that we are here... now... doing exactly what we're doing. The millions and billions of random and not so random events that have led to this very moment that you are reading this sentence.

To be somewhat cliche about it... if you actually spend more than a couple minutes doing this "exercise" (thinking about these questions) you will eventually find yourself at a point of stunned wonder. A realization - beyond the mere intellectual - of how complex everything is, and what a true miracle it is that you even exist.

Personally, I opened the thread, read the question, pondered each one and answered each in my mind because they were asked by a man with an amazing mind who has the capacity to make me think, to feel, and to create balance in an uncertain space.

Why did you open this thread? Was it because of the title? Did someone recommend it? Because of my name associated with it? Because of someone else who has posted to this thread?
I wanted to know the rest of the question...and a quick glimpse at the name of the thread starter told me I wouldn't be disappointed by something inane.

Why at this particular time on this particular day did you open this thread? Why are you even at Literotica today? Why are you at Lit at all? Did someone recommend Lit to you? How did that person come into your life?
You know, I like lit. I enjoy the people. It's one of the only places I can totally be who I am, without being censured completely. Someone recommended Lit to me for my writing. He was my first cyber ever on another site. I still talk to him once in awhile.

How did you find Lit in the first place? If you wandered in accidently what is it you were actually looking for? How did you discover the BB? Why did you decide to register? What prompted you to make your first post? Your second? Why did you start your own 1st thread? What was it about? Do you remember?
hmmm. let's see. tulip wanted me to come from Lit chat over to the boards, I kept putting it off. Then UP and daughter pulled me over to the poetry forum... those were my first posts. Then I went and checked out Tulip's thread in the personals. After a couple months of that, and barely racking up 100 posts I decided to check out the general board. Hmmmm.. I don't remember my first thread, I am interested though and now want to find it.

Why did you decide to stay at Lit? Why are you still here at Lit? Did you ever think about leaving? Why don't you? Why might you someday?
Why won't you? Why do you have so many posts? Why do you have so few posts?

I'm here because I've made a group of friends that I enjoy, and there are always new people to meet and new ideas to discover.
I used to think about leaving when I first started the general board. But then I realized assholes don't matter, and I'm genuinely tougher than a handfull of closeminded people. This board is bigger than them. As for my number of posts, I have just the perfect amount, for me.

Why do you come to sites like this? Why do you log on to the internet? When did you first log on to the internet? What's the first web site you ever visited? The first chat? The first BB?
first chat was Iwon, first BB... was a private one that my girlfriend belonged to.

Who was the first friend you made online? Are you still friends? Do you even know where they are or what they're doing? Do you know how to contact them if you want to? Why don't you?
ummmm Shelle, and yes... some of you know about her.

Why are you reading this on this particular computer? In the room that you're in? In this particular house or apartment? Why are you in the place you're in, the city or town, and not another? Why this continent and not another?
it's the only puter I have, and it's in this room. I'm here, because my husband moved us here, and I agreed to support that decision.

Why are you here at all? That is.. how did your parent's meet? Did they consciously decide to have a child, do you happen to know, or were you an "accident?" What cities were they born in? If in different cities, why did they move in space-time so that their paths would intersect?
mom was a bartender at the Italian Club and pops walked in. He adopted me a few years later, but then again so did she. Mom was born in North Carolina, and Dad was born in NYC.

Why is this planet capable of supporting life, and why did it produce the kind of life that would ask questions like this?
God exists

Actually, Dill... I opened it because your name was associated with it. I often find your threads and posts to be meaningful, and often ones I'd like to post to.

I am here because I needed a new outlet... I needed to find a new place where I'd be accepted, and a place where I could make new friends, near or far.

There were a lot of other questions, but I answered the ones that appealed to me most. Great thread, yet again, Dill. :)

questions I ponder while cutting the lawn....

Sure, before I get back to finish my potentially long-winded rhetoric... I should re-register as Gorgias....lol

Well put by you and freescorfr ;)

The act of introspection involved here, the addressing of a deep philosophical topic, is an end in itself. That's an excellent exercise to illustrate the point.

why

back in highschool some friends and myself had the "why" notebook. the first page read something like....
"are you being assulted by the bordom and tedium of life? are you out of hope? is there any reason at all? do you feel you can't go on? this book is here so you can just ask why? why? why? why?....."
it went on indefinetly. in fact,we filled sevral books. we ould give it toeach other when we knew one of us was headed to a particularly boring class. teacher never botheed you. they thought we weree writing notes ferociously.

and that is why i opened the thread.

oh, and desert amazon, i LOVE that av.

Wow...

Thats alot of questions..........I feel like I am the weakest link..............Good Bye!!!!

Just kidding Dill...........I came to this thread because you my dear referred me to it, and the rest of the question will be answered.........eventually.

My turn:

Why did you open this thread? Was it because of the title? Did someone recommend it? Because of my name associated with it? Because of someone else who has posted to this thread?

Because I wrote it and I figured it was time to answer my own questions.

Why at this particular time on this particular day did you open this thread? Why are you even at Literotica today?

Because I'm stuck in my hotel room right now, unable to go into the office because I'm sick as a dog... and bored... so that's why I'm here today, at this moment.

Why are you at Lit at all? Did someone recommend Lit to you? How did that person come into your life?

No one recommended it. I found it all by my self.

How did you find Lit in the first place? If you wandered in accidently what is it you were actually looking for? How did you discover the BB? Why did you decide to register?

I was looking for erotic stories. I think many, if not most, of us found this place through the stories first. Then I discovered the chat forum and hung out there for a while... then I decided to post some of my own stories here.

As far as the BB goes - I was introduced to the author's boards first via an email from Dixon who told me that my "Jessica's Big Dick Adventure" stories were the topic of a not so friendly discussion. That's how I first found out the boards existed at all.

What prompted you to make your first post? Your second? Why did you start your own 1st thread? What was it about? Do you remember?

First post was to the discussion I mentioned above. So was the second. I was on the author boards for a while before I discovered the General Board.

My first thread. No, I don't remember what it was but I just looked it up - if search is right the first thread I started was the "2000 Darwin Awards." Why did I start it? Because I thought it was fun and interesting.

Why did you decide to stay at Lit? Why are you still here at Lit? Did you ever think about leaving? Why don't you? Why might you someday? Why won't you? Why do you have so many posts? Why do you have so few posts?

Because it was intriguing, interesting, fun. Because it was and is a place where diversity rules. I love that we can talk sex and politics and zen and religion and movies and anything else and flirt the whole while. Its a great community.

And that's why I'm still here too.

Did I ever think of leaving. Yes. Came close.

Why might I someday - things change. I have no plans to leave but who knows what will happen.

So many, so few - posts. Its all relative. While I might have close to 7,000 posts, my average is 12 posts a day. That doesn't seem to me like a lot or a little. There are people here with more posts than me who have been here for a shorter length of time and people with less posts who have been here longer. I've got the right amount of posts for me.

I've often joked that I'd love to see a word total count. I have a feeling that in amount of words produced I'd be pretty near the top of the list. *grin*

Why do you come to sites like this? Why do you log on to the internet? When did you first log on to the internet? What's the first web site you ever visited? The first chat? The first BB?

Well Dill, that depends what you mean by sites like these. I come to erotic/porn sites because I'm obsessed with sex and horny 24/7. I can't imagine there is anyone here who wasn't here initially for the sex (unless they were introduced by a friend).

I come to sites like this because of the community, the friends, the conversation, the interaction. This is the only community I currently am active in though I have been active in others in the past.

I first logged onto the internet through work around 1991. The first web site I visited... I can't remember, to be honest. The first chat though was Bianca's. Since Bianca I have had extended stays at Banana Chat, Firefly, Plantation and SOI (State of Insanity).

Who was the first friend you made online? Are you still friends? Do you even know where they are or what they're doing? Do you know how to contact them if you want to? Why don't you?

I can't say who was the first friend but there was a group of us back then and I remember them all quite well. A couple I am still in occaisional contact with. I believe I know how to contact the others if I want to. Why don't I contact some of them - we've moved on, they've moved on... different lives, different worlds. Most I'm still friendly with and hear from them every now and then.

Why are you reading this on this particular computer? In the room that you're in? In this particular house or apartment? Why are you in the place you're in, the city or town, and not another? Why this continent and not another?

My laptop. I'm using this because I'm travelling on business this week... in Texas and my home computer is back on the East Coast. The room is my hotel room. My home away from home. Why am I in this place, this city (Austin) - because that is where my job has taken me to this week. Why this continent? Because that's where Texas is. But on a deeper level - and more to the intent of this thread - I am on this continent because my great grandparents immigrated here from Europe.

Why are you here at all? That is.. how did your parent's meet? Did they consciously decide to have a child, do you happen to know, or were you an "accident?" What cities were they born in? If in different cities, why did they move in space-time so that their paths would intersect?

My parents met in NYC. Both their parents had moved to NYC, as did many immigrants. They met because they lived in the same neighborhood. I was not an accident though I think their timing wasn't quite what they expected. They weren't trying, but they weren't not trying. Both were born in NYC.

Why is this planet capable of supporting life, and why did it produce the kind of life that would ask questions like this?

I don't need to resort to metaphysical to answer this and I'm surprised no one has really tried this one yet - in any kind of depth.

This planet is capable of life because of billions and billions of seemingly random events that have led us to this particular moment in time. To use the current model - it all started with the Big Bang. And if each atom wasn't exactly in a certain place at that time, and all times following, it is quite likely that this planet would never have been capable of supporting life and that I would not have been around to ask this question and you wouldn't be here to answer this question.

once upon a time there lived alittle girl...or maybe a boy...or maybe it was twice upon a time...perhaps it was in a different dimension where time has no meaning. can you imagine life without time?? What would it be like? How would you, as human being survive? Why would you do it? Who would help you??

And the utlimate question - why would you bother to even think about it??

ps. there's a lot more where that came from...amazing minds tend to come together and lit is just one of the few places where smart people meet without being afraid of insluting the people below their level of awareness...and anyone who has read ur questions and pondered upon them knows that s/he is a smart person...way above the standard laziness of a human being....

It's Fire!!!

Dilly, loved the answers.

I was beginning to wonder.....

And Fire, ever read from the Confessions of St.Augustine, the chapter on "Time"?

You, Dilly?
