Because it takes forever to figure out how!

You have to wait 30 min at line at the DMV to register, most people register when they get their drivers licences, but you can't register wehn you get your licence at 16 becuase you are not old enough to vote yet.

It isnt something you think about until around the time of the election, at which point it is too late to register. You have to register a month in advance.

If registering to vote wasen't so complicated I think more people would vote. Especially the younger generation.

I love how the goverenment puts an effort to find me when I owe them money. But when it comes time for me to choose who is playing with my tax dollars they sure as hell dont try to find me.

OK enough about me being pissed off!

You need to go to a more activist school.

I had dozens of opportunities to register, or in my case, switch my registration to the location.

Yup, I have to say this school is best known for it engineering program. Not exactly your activist types.

MTV's Get Out the Vote campaign didn't sway you earlier, huh?

At least I am triggering a real issue.

Not the anrachists revolution!

Not all states require you to register a month in advance. Some states will let you register at the polls on election day as long as you have a picture ID and proof of citizenship.

Another example of why younger people don't vote is that we are ignored.

Canditates don't pay any attention to the 18-25 demographic because they know we don't vote. If those canditates spent some time and resources on us maybe we would vote more often.

VA has elections every year and somtimes more then once a year depending on where you life if the election for mayor or something comes up.

The VA governor election came up last year and the Republican candidate, Mark Earley, came to one of Techs football games last year. One of the reporters for The Collegiate Times, Techs student completly student run newspaper, wanted to do a quick interview with Earley before the game.

She had contacted his office several days before hand and told them what she wanted to do and they said he would talk to her for a few minutes which is all she wanted. She tried to go up to him at first and Earley's publicist or campaign manager got in her way and would not let her near him.

He was talking on his cell at the same time as he was trying to drive her off. Earley was rubbing elbows and talking with many older tech alumni before the game and so she just decided to wait until these people cleared out then she would try again.

She waited till a few minutes before kickoff when Earley had finished talking to all of the Alumni then she tried to get her short interview again.

The CT's archive is down right now so I can't pull up the exact interview and it would not matter if I could because there essentialy was none. The reporter asked Earley one or two questions which he didn't really answer at all. He just said something like bye kid and walked off towards the alumni stands.

Mark Warner was the Democratic candidate for governor and he did give a short sit down interview to the CT when he was in the area during the campaign. The interview was still not very much and his campaign did not really seek out younger voters very much. Warner's camapign went after younger voters more then Earley's did but that is only because Earley did not go after younger voters at all.

The best way to sum up his campaign is how he treated people who came up to talk to him during the football game. Anyone who was under 40 got ignored and run off by the campaign manager or some other campaign worker.
