Why the Hate

Don't expect consistency from readers. They're a motley bunch, with many different eyeballs and minds. Some see the first sentence and immediately go elsewhere while others devour it. Readers respond in various ways. Some stories may gain many positive comments but mostly low votes. Some get high votes and no comments. Go figure.

And maybe EC is getting some reader overflow from LW.

The sharks from LW aren't confined to their pool. You hit several major touchstones in the story they savaged.

The worst of the worst don't have time to wander, because they're too busy writing 1500 word comments in LW. The rest are out there lurking and dropping 1-bombs when they stumble across their hate-flavor.

I guess it's possible. I just can't get my head around it.

Spare yourself the torment, its like wondering why the good die young. Aim for another target....like... number of views. I believe (or strongly suspect) views tell the real story of a tale's merit.

And what surprises me is that they take the time to read or not read stories about what they say they hate and then leave comments about how the wife is going to die from aids and the husband is a wimp with no self respect.

Makes me wonder if a cord had been struck somewhere in the befuddled psyche of the reader.

We could spend our lifetime analyzing these poor misspent persons, but that isn't something that appeals to me at the moment. Maybe sometime in the future...way in the future.

Why is there no like button?

There is for most folks. It's the "favorite story" button. It appears to me that most use it just to note they really liked the story.

There's no figuring out why someone else (who doesn't comment) hates one story and not another. It's just spinning wheels to grouse a lot over this, I think. A waste of time and effort.

Can you expand on that? I've never read a loving wives story.

One time I stumbled across a neat experiment - wouldn't mind seeing it again if someone can find it.

It was the same exact story, posted twice with different titles, one in LW, the other in some appropriate other category. Think the names were "Always Say Yes" and "Never Say No."

The *exact* same content was a 4.5 in the normal category, and a 3.7 or something in LW.

The LW shark tank comments are why my characters started as married couples and got downshifted to dating and why I choose squishy categories like EC and NN.

I think I may have figured it out. I have been wondering, with all this negative feedback about 'loving wives' choosing to love other than their husbands. Why I continually asked myself, would anyone want to read pornography about the things they do every day with their own wives? I think I have had an epithany. They DON'T Do things with their wives, they only WISH they did. That's what they are looking for and why they are so offended by wives who look elsewhere. By Jove I think I've got it. . ."The rain in Spain. . ."

Shed some light on the definition of EPITHANY, I cant seem to put my finger on the word anywhere.

It's an on going war that makes no more sense than many tangible wars.

Fact is, for some reason, stories of this nature, especially those with cuckold themes, get hate mail and comments.

Even if you put a "WARNING CONTAINS WIFE SHARING AND CUCKOLD THEMES" at the top, for some reason, these people have enough HATE in their lives to read your story rearguards and then STILL hate on you in the comments section.

Oddly stories of non-consent and even incest do NOT attract this hate. Those are far more risque topics imho (but I don't hate on those who write them)

Heck I myself have written a series about a WIFE being TAKEN by a mud demon, and later, an actual demonic force.

No hate mail on those topics at all. WTF?

Ask yourself this though.....
These people spend their time reading SEX STORIES on an EROTIC LITERATURE WEBSITE.

As far as I'm concerned, they have ZERO moral high ground and hence.....really....just ignore them.

Actually...I think they like these kind of stories. In fact I think they can't live without them. They have to read them. The really like them. So much so that they can't let anyone know, so they leave flaming comments and 1 bombs and send emails hoping the author and his wife die from AIDS.

If they didn't like them, why read them? Why waste their time with something they don't like?

They love, Loving Wives. They all wait eagerly for the next story to be posted by their favorite author to get their nut off.

How a story hits a person depends on so many factors that I consider rankings to be almost useless. While it is politically incorrect to even mention, I'd LOVE to be able to collect data on how women rate stories vs the part of their cycle they are in. (There, I said it). Likewise, do guys rate NC stories higher on days they've taken crap from a female boss? You're dealing with the most volatile corner of the human psyche; the blowback from any story is going to be random. I have one story going now where two guys clearly want to be fucking their gfs all day long and every day; a reader accused the characters of being gay, probably because he wished they were. I mean, you just can't make this stuff up.

90% of the email I get is positive. Most of the comments I get are as well. But I've gotten occasional feedback so vile (on a story that rates in the 4.7 range) that I've wondered just what kind of psychopaths roam this site. You want dark psychotic sexualized mania, skip the stories and read the comments.

Why the hate? It just happens. I know for a certainty that there are women (presumably men as well) who get off hard to a story and then slam it with nasty comments. Some folk do not like seeing themselves in a mirror, and that's what this place is, a big mirror.

One day I hope I will write a story that fits into Loving Wives with cheating and what not just to see if I will survive. Anyone else have done that or think about doing that?

I am probably not good enough at writing to win people over to my side that way nor am I dramatic enough to write a story just to get a rise from the LW mob. I guess I could read the comments on some of the hated stories but I feel the experience would be very different being the target compared to just hearing rumors and watching others be targeted.

I guess it is a bit of fear that have stopped me from trying to write a cheating wife or cuckold story. I guess that is what the LW mob wants.

You have to develop a thick skin! Sadly.

Trolls will be trolls, if not you then someone else. A sad fact on the net. What I do and this is just an opinion. I ignore all anons. Good or bad! I should make it so they can't comment but a little part of me likes to sift through it for an odd nugget of truth. The true critics will make it so you can contact them and open a real forum as to why they hated a story. I have managed to talk to a couple of people about a story, and I think it's helped me.

And my last piece of advice. You only have to answer to yourself. If you like it then fuck the rest!!! A difficult view to have I know, but it's been good for me to keep going past the haters.

Hope this helped and keep writing. They win when you quit.

Of course you'll probably survive. Hardly any LIT authors are murdered by irate fans or trolls. Your chances of long-term survival are very, very good.

Beyond that, if you're afraid your nom-de-LIT will suffer from 1-bombing and illiterate rants, use an alt. Create an ID that specializes in iconoclastic LW tales and responds snarkily to the comments of fucktards. Maybe call that ID TrollFucker69. Be obvious. Draw fire. Laugh at the fools.

I read a story today where the husband treated the girlfriend like shit. In the story the girlfriend ties him up and gets all dolled up, tells him she is going to pick up someone then bring the person back to the room and fuck him in front of her boyfriend. The story hand a good plot but the character development was almost non-existent. I told the author as much and gave him 3 or 4 stars. Another story was about a wife that took in a boarder whom she started to fuck without the husband's consent. As the story progressed the wife treated the husband worse and worse. I posted a comment that even though it was fiction the vast majority of guys would have thrown her out then filed for divorce.

I posted two stories within about a week of one another with, at the root of them, very similar themes. In both, a wife on her own decides to have some fun on the side. They were both posted to the same category. There were some differences. In one, the husband is a cheating bastard. In the other, the wife and the husband have for sometime fantasized together about her being with another man. There are also ethnic differences.

Beyond that, there are few fundamental differences. One scored very high with readers. The other... Troll bait.

Can someone offer me some understanding around this?

The trigger for the trolls seems to be women in control of their own sexuality. It's ok for men to take advantage of a woman, treat her like shit or shame her. All manner of perversions are acceptable as long as she feels bad about it or is under a man's control. But if she owns it and enjoys it the trolls just can't take it.

They usually leave me with the impression that they are coming from a place of sexism - its more than the garden variety misogynist. They come across as the kind of neanderthals who think it is reasonable to kill your sister for going out in public alone.

I've submitted a few LW tales. Most get low scores and nasty comments, regardless of details. Whether the cheater wins or loses, I get hate. The one exception: two couples have cheating mates. The cheaters get washed away in a mudslide -- divine punishment. That one won a Red-H. My conclusion: let some deity do the BTB dirty work.
