Even before the rigged 2016 election, the FBI was investigating Michael Cohen. When Robert Mueller was appointed Special Counsel, the gloves came off. Released documents, even though highly redacted, show the length and breadth of the investigation. Some highlights.
Prosecutors were able to get his hands on emails from Cohen's Gmail account not only stored in the U.S., but thanks to the con artist's signature on the $1.3 billion spending he signed to avoid a federal government shutdown, emails stored overseas. These emails encompassed years of work when Cohen was the personal attorney to the con artist.
Cohen received $500,000 from a holding company set up right before the election, and whose sources of money are questionable. The documents show Essential Consultants was established in October 2016, right before the election. In January 2017, money began to flow in monthly from Columbus Nova LLC. The monthly installments were for $83,333 and totaled $583,332 from January, 2017 to August 2017.
Mueller sought warrants for Cohen's emails relating to the above company and justified them for "several different courses of conduct by Cohen, including, among other things, false statements to financial institutions relating to the purpose of an account he opened in the name of Essential Consultants LLC and the nature of funds flowing into that account, and activities undertaken by Cohen on behalf of certain foreign persons or foreign entities without having registered as a foreign agent,"
Twice Mueller was granted permission to track all phone calls to and from Cohen. Once in November 2017 and again in January 2018. Mueller than handed over the information to federal prosecutors.
In addition, prosecutors requested and received permission to get historical phone data on Cohen, including one month before the election in 2016. On top of all that, investigators used the "triggerfish" technique, otherwise known as Stingray, to determine the location of Cohen's two phones. Once their location was known, prosecutors obtained search warrants to retrieve thousands of files from both phones as well as an iPad.
It should be noted, aside from the con artist whining about a "witch hunt", none of the other liars, Sekulow or Giuliani, have said word one since Cohen started talking. Is it possible they're lying low because to say anything else at this point would only add more fuel to the raging fire of prosecutions?
