A friend of mine got told today by his wife (mother of his stepkids), in the heat of an argument, "Well you're not their real father anyway!"

I ain't going into details, but I reminded him that I'd warned him about this.. 10 years ago...

Okay now that I believe we have established what IIRC stands for.


So he adopted those children at some point during the marriage.
Of course he should have to pay child support. Why? Because they are his children.

It makes not a bit of difference that they aren't his biological kids, but he assumed legal responsibility to them in a court of law. When he dies they will have the same rights to inheritance as any biological child he may have or might have in the future.

Please oh please don't tell me you recognize this.

I never said anyone who adopts kids shouldn't pay child support in the event of a divorce. I said I warned him ages ago some very bad things were going to happen. The divorce and all of its logical consequences were even worse things that I did not predict.

Addressing the initial post:

1) Your friend shouldn't have married a woman with children if he wasn't prepared to hear those words...however, they usually come from the children and not them mom...she's a fruit loop.

2) He adopted them, so he is their father. Even if he hadn't he still stepped in and raise those children as his. I imagine the other guy is just a sperm donor...he might want to throw that in her face next time she talks out of turn. If the dad is in the picture, then yes she is correct, they do have a father, and he does take precedence over the step father. However, she could have used a little more tact when she said that to her husband.

3) Your telling him 'I told you so' won't correct anything, and rubbing it in his face is your bad. Any true friend would have just listened to him vent, and patted him on the back for his efforts in putting up with her array of shit all these years.
