Why porn/erotica is important

Dee, when you mentioned you learned how to orgasm from porn, it definitely struck a chord with me. As a teenager, I learned more about my body from naughty novels than any other source; after a few months of determined trying, I finally figured it out at 15 how to climax and haven't stopped since. Unfortunately for many women, orgasming is not an innate talent, and most mothers of my acquaintance would NEVER explain the intricacies of the female orgasm to their daughters. And those who most need instruction might never pick up an erotic novel or watch a naughty movie because of society's perception that porn is dirty and immoral . . .

Lest we forget, half of the paperback fiction published today are romance novels, of which quite a few are highly erotic in nature. I think this fact substantiates the assertion that women are interested in pornography, both literary and visual, and have found ways to satisfy their desires in more socially acceptable ways.

Unfortunately for me, my interest in erotica back-fired when I was a teenager, as my mother found my A. N. Roquelaure novels, tore them in tiny bits (which must have taken her ages), dumped the remains on my bed, and promptly made an appointment for me with a psychiatrist. I am still trying to overcome some of the problems from that unfortunate incident . . .

In my opinion, porn and erotica should be de-stigmatized and sexuality celebrated in both men and women; once celebration of that sexuality would be erotic words and erotic images.

Ooops, this should be under the women and porn thread . . .

We sometimes have to deal with the strict codes of others, your mother in this case. Those imprint on our growing sensual lives, a tarnished black thread, that can only be torn away with the sharp knife of knowledge, however gained.

Agreed, but unfortunately, there are those who think otherwise...but until they come to their senses, you're in good hands here
