Why Mix Trans and Cross?

Why are trans stories mixed with crossdressing stories? They are related issues, on a certain level, but as someone who is attracted to one (trans) I find the other (corssdressers) decidedly unattractive. Do others agree with me? How can we get Literotica to separate the two so we don't have to wade through several crossdresser stories to find a trans story?

I agree with the idea, but who's going to volunteer their time to sort one from the other? I'm not sure how the stories threads are managed but that might be the issue. Other than that, use the search tool

I don’t know why they put them together but I suspect it was a long time ago.

I'm not in full agreement about separating Transgender and Cross-Dressing. The reason for this is: Who is to say which story character's are located at the right spot on the spectrum of gender identity. With the growing understanding of gender fluidity, who gets to define the point of separation?

What about the strongly transgender person who will never be able to afford a full surgery? I would argue they are fully transgender if that is what their inner voice tells them. But if they can't afford the surgeries, their lived experience may well resemble a cross-dresser. Personally, I don't view any male who has a need to cross-dress to strictly be of the male gender. They may not all be 100% female gendered, but they aren't 100% "male" either. That cross-dressing is feeding something inside that they need. (and the same goes for females who are masculine.)

I do tend to view the term "cross-dressing" as pretty outdated. Our understanding of gender has grown and evolved a lot since Literotica went online. Ideally, the Transgender/Cross-Dresser category would be expansive enough to reflect the many non-binary experiences actual humans experience. I don't see a change in the category name happening, so the best authors can do is to be as clear as possible in the story Title and Short Description — and if deemed necessary; in an Introduction paragraph.

If a category name change could happen, I think 'Non-Binary Gender' would be a bigger tent.

My girlfriend does not take hormones nor has she had any surgery. This makes her a cross dresser? She is all natural and considers herself a transgender woman not a man dressing in feminine clothes. There is nothing masculine about her. Well, except one thing.

The author is in the best position to decide into which category their work should go and that is checked by the mod - just as it is now. I can understand the OPs frustration when you invest time in reading a story that you're led to believe is say, lesbian and it turns out to be bdsm.

I'm sure the reason for the mix is historical and any new category is unlikely to act retrospectively

Just use the story tags to retrieve the kinds of stories you want to see.

And authors need to be sure to include the correct tags or this search will also result in a misleading direction. To this I would add; authors really should do their research when writing a story about any non-binary person. It's all just a click away now. There really is no excuse for not getting the facts straight on this — and to not do it just makes the story less appealing all the way around.

Interesting. My two most popular stories are both fantasies. The other stories are all completely factual but not nearly as popular. People really seem to like the off the wall stuff.

The story ratings are a pretty blunt instrument: a good story will get lots of ***s and is then rated "hot" but that doesn't necessarily mean it's full of sexual content. It's pretty much impossible to understand the ratings, but broadly speaking, a decent story with sex does well - as it should. I'm not sure Jane Austen would have got good ratings at Lit :)
