I hate doing this on the net, because I know everyone types really fast and doesn't re-check it, but please can people stop asking questions starting 'what is...' or 'why is...' as the thread title.

The correct grammar is 'are ' when you are talking about more than one of something e.g. 'why are all the men so damn sexy?'.

'Is' should only be used when talking about one of something e.g. 'why is that woman so unhappy?'.

If you really want to win over an author you should at least know how to at least frame your question properly. Anything in the body of a post doesn't matter so much.

Thank you.

There are some other, bigger errors that someone can do when he posts here.

For example: USING CAPS LOCK - FIRST OF ALL: IT'S NOT SO EASY TO READ, BUT ALSO: IT MEANS "SCREAMING" IF YOU WRITE LIKE THIS.

another big mistake that i really don't like is when someone doesn't know how to use punctuation i mean it's very hard to see where one sentences ends and where the other one starts also you should know when you should start a new paragraph otherwise your post will look like a big block and that is very hard to read believe me i have seen plenty of postings like that but come on puntuation isn't that hard just use your common sense it doesn't have to be perfect as long as you at least give it a try

Another confussing thing is the shortcuts and slang. I mean, if ya post on this board, especially, if it is a bigga posting, you don't need shortcuts. If U use shortcuts, U save like 2 seconds or less .... or do U think it looks kewl dat way ? R U some kind of a kewl gangsta rappa or what ?

Hmmmmm

Possibly because a lot of non-authors post here, and they just don't feel it so important to be bloody perfect every second of the day.

I can forgive bad grammar any day, as long as I can understand the text of the post.

pops...............

Thanks pops, I have to send you the story I'm working on. If you make it through the first page without deleting the file, then I'll know it's worth correcting.

Okay this isn't really so much grammer but I think some of the abbreviations are getting out of control. Things like Imho or Imo or even lmao are fine but after that I tend to get a little lost such as brbttyl and the like are a bit excessive

Also, as an addendum, saying "Why is there bad grammer" is, I believe, nominalization. Saying "Why is bad grammer so prevalent on this forum" is the more accurate; the former is a somewhat existentialist question.

Um, I was, like, satirizing the format of the badly phrased thread questions in this forum? Like, duh?

Duh isn't an acronym. It's a word. Lile Homer's D'oh. Or Ouch. Duh!

PEOPLE

ARE

GODDAMN

STUPID.

That's why. It becomes much easier to deal with people once you accept that fact.

Personally, I put people who can't write (and I mean SERIOUSLY can't write -12 year old AOL users, for example) on my ignore list. I will never be able to take anything a person who writes like that seriously because thier typing gives the impression that they're still struggling with the concept of walking erect, plus it's annoying as all fuck. I suggest you do the same.

It isn't in any dictionary I own.

I thought I knew my Homer, but I don't recall it anywhere in the Iliad or the Odyssey. The rest are mainly fragments and of doubtful attribution, are they not?

Or is someone trying to wind me up?

Does anyone else find this recurring theme about grammer and spelling to be just a bit too nerdy? Oh. I forgot. Look were I am. Never mind.

This is a message board people. It is, by it's very nature informal. Why be so freakin' anal about it?

Good grief!

I'm reading name calling and such. Life must really suck for some people. "I'm ignoring you, because you make typos and spelling errors" What da fuck!

Get a fuckin' grip on reality! How much here will increase the value of your life? If any, you really need help.

It's not that deep.
