Why is the United States the greatest country in the history of Civilization?

cuz cracker looks at WriterDom as if he has gone insane.

cuz, i don't get into discussions like this and only say we are what we are because I AM THAT I AM.

Tautology

WD, you may join Yoyotwat. Go to www.google.com and type in the word "ethnocentric" and write an essay as to why it's a bad thing.

As aTeacher would you accept an essay like that or would you expect a student to give proof and support his argument?

support your argument.

I'm the teacher- "because I said so" is the answer- that's it, class dismissed! :p

An essay like that would earn a smiley face with hair in my room. That's four whole words!!!!

Never argue with a teacher, you might just find yourself on the opposite end of the all powerful teacher's finger.

Wouldn't it depend on if you were from the United States or not? I am sure people in other countries do not think we are so great. We are still a young country and learning the hard way. In my opinion it is the greatest country because it is a melting pot of people and ideas but I am biased. I am an American.

Actually America is the oldest government (continuous) today. Every other country has fundamentally changed its form of government since the last two hundred years.

My opinion is that it is the greatest country on earth - if nothing else, for the reason that this forum and any others like it can exist - freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to choose. Most other western nations also have this freedom.

America is a land of opportunity, and a land of extremes. It offers anyone with a dream and hard work to achieve greatness, wealth, comfort. It also has poverty and high crime. Other western nations have a different philosophy. They have less poverty, less crime, and more socialized approach to services. On the flip side, they have less opportunities to achieve the same personal heights due to taxation (someone has to pay for the services) and high unemployment. More stability, less extremes.

I personally prefer the chance to soar high and fail miserably than give up some of my opportunities in exchange for a safety net.

The Constitution and the Bill of Rights. However, if we all let the fundamental principles in those documents go bye-bye, then my opinion will change.

Huh? What?

It depends on what you mean by "great," I guess. Personally, I think Vanuatu is the greatest country in the history of civilization.

Vanuatu Uber Alles!
:p

Actually, Iceland hasn't fundamentally changed it's form of government in one thousand years!
