My mother has a very bad view on sexual subjects. She doesn't say it out loud but any mention of something rude she over- reacts. It's very awkward in my house, I'm 19, 20 soon. I've never had a relationship and I feel like she would be ashamed or grossed out if I did get a boyfriend. I've only been drunk 6 times. And everytime she says 'No nookie' 'Behave and no boys'.
Every parent says these things but why? I haven't lived the way most young adults have. I'm not allowed out late, it's frustrating. This is a kind of rant I needed to do. I'm worried I'm going to be like her, I have been called 'frigid' before and I'm always asked 'are you a virgin?'.
Sorry if this bored you.... I just think it's ridiculous how such a natural thing is soo out-of-bounds and 'wrong'

it's not out of bounds or wrong. Your mum just has a fairly skewed view of it. Why she's like that could be down to any number of reasons, but it is her issue, not yours.

Sounds like she’s been doing it wrong.

If she has all her own teeth and doesn’t suffer from incontinence send her over and I’ll see what I can do.

Woof!

I'm running a book on how many creepy PMs this OP brought forth from the Kens of this world. And the Ishtards.

Who the fuck remembers frigid? Did you put on a sweater? That sent you straight to google, didn't it?

You need to hang around with men your own age who think Freud is a coffee maker.

Frigid is a pretty common insult starting in high school.

Sex is bad because God hates us, SolusX. You knew that.

Your mother assumes that you're stupid- like my grandparents do. She doesn't want you to fuck because she's probably got an unhealthy STD fear- which is kinda understandable. People who overreact to things (like my grandparents) assume that every girl/guy in the world has the HIV. It's a legitimate concern, but one that I've never personally dealt with.

I know what you mean- I kinda had the opposite; and it is pretty easy to pick out virgins who were raised in an environment like that. You can't let your mom get you scared. If you're 19 or 20 I wouldn't worry about it unless you're codependent and want to live with your mom or something. Just give her the watered-down version of your life when you talk to her. My family can know that I have a mate without listening to me talk about sex. Parents don't want to picture their kids having sex for the same reason you don't want to picture your parents having sex. It's gross.

You're lucky to have a parent who set limits and taught you right from wrong.

If you don't like it, get a job and move out.

Your parents are doing it right. Nothing good comes from being out late. Anything worth doing can be done when there aren't a bunch of drunk potential teenage rapists around you without someone to protect you. If you want to have sex and you don't want to wait until you are married, then find a friend you trust and experiment. Make sure he's clean of STDs.

You're too young to be drinking legally. Here's a shocker, you can have fun without alcohol. If you want to drink, at least wait until you can legally drink and don't court legal trouble.

No point in staying out late. What more fun are you expecting to magically appear after midnight or so?

The boyfriend thing? That's your impression of her, that's fine. If she doesn't approve, keep it a secret. For God's sake, though, I hope you're using condoms and you're on birth control...the last thing you want is it end up pregnant with a mom like that.

1. She cares, don't punish her.
2. Your decision but be sure it is right for you, be in control.
3. Be of sound mind when making that decision, alcohol can definitely sound decision making.
3. Do you want sex, or love & emotion when you lose you virginity? Know your body, first.
4. The person(s) calling you names are certainly not the person(s) you want to be with. Sticks & stones.
5. Nothing or very few good things happen after midnight.
6. Growing up is frustrating, this is part of it.
7. Good luck, enjoy

As someone with parents who were a little more overprotective than necessary, I can understand the frustration. However, I can’t tell from your post whether your mother is setting reasonable limits or whether she has some issues when it comes to sex. Is your father or a comparable male figure around? Maybe he would be able to put things in perspective. Have you tried to have a conversation with your mother as a person rather than an authority figure? My parents started to treat me like an adult when I was able to have adult conversations with them and treat them in kind. It just doesn’t seem that you’re trying to understand your mother or that you have any grievance other than that of a cloistered kid, a role you’re a little too old to play, quite frankly.

You don’t mention any particular guy, and your loss is of the hypothetical greener grass variety. In truth, there are other people your age who are just as inexperienced, who may or may not share your esteem for the wild life. I suspect your mother may not be your only problem, so don’t make her the scapegoat. If you really wanted to and had the opportunity, you would party to your heart’s content. However, such a life can be hollow and dangerous if you don’t have real friends and relationships to support you. Your mother’s concern could be well-founded. Regardless, is her opinion the real obstacle here?

Old thread but . . . she's in the UK where the legal drinking age is 18. In much of Europe and indeed the world it's less than that.

You Necro'ed a months-old thread to correct me publicly, just so you could make sure everyone saw it? Classy.

Thanks for setting me straight there.

Excuse my pedantry. However that was a bit of a categorical statement, there's a big wide world out here!
