Why is Jeff Gordon the most hated man in NASCAR?

As a phrase

the Tiger Woods of Nascar

Just something ain't right about that.

like

The Micheal Jordan of Cricket

or the Larry Flynt of Good Housekeeping,

nothing serious here, just the juxtaposition of white collar onto blue collar

Thanks WD

You just had to ask this didn't you..... so okay here goes.

Mistress, you are absolutely correct. He is a fucking crybaby. I will never forget being at the 1997 Winston Cup Preview and seeing him wipe away tears during his interview because he was being boo'd. WonderBoy definitely couldn't take it like a man.

Young Gun, winning a lot doesn't automatically qualify you for being hated. Look at Dale Jarrett, he has won a lot the last few years and while he's not univerally loved, there is no strong "anybody but Jarrett" contingent.

Now, WHY do I hate J&^% G*&^*%?

1. He screwed over his car owner in the Busch Series Bill Davis.
2. He was a complete and total ass the one time I met him.
3. He walked into Hendrick Motor Sports as if he were the second coming and expected everyone to bow down to him. (Which Hendrick did)
4. He's a PR creation. If he's had an original thought in the past eight years, he's checked with the PR people before speaking it.
5. He has no respect for the history of Nascar.
6. He has no respect for the sacrifices his mother and stepfather made so that HE could race.

and finally, and it would be enough to make me hate him by itself

7. He badmouthed Michael Waltrip during the TransSouth 500 at Darlington in the Spring of 1993.

I just noticed you called him the most hated man in Nascar..... Nope he's the most hated crybaby or boy, he hasn't qualified as a man yet.

It mite be cause he aint no good ol boy. And he talks funny. He don't chew bacca. And I heard many times before that he might just be funny That wife is all show and no blow if you know what I mean. :(

If you're gonna list all the reasons those pro-Crybaby types use to throw the discussion away from racing, then you forgot a couple.

He cheats. He's nothing without Ray Evernham. And it's all the Rainbow Warriors (now the UPS guys).

:p

Don't they all cheat? And if he's nothing without Ray, then why is he at the top of the point list? Inquiring minds want to know.

Because everyone hates a winner, especially when the win and win and win and win.............just look at other sports icons, teams, etc....

Now I will go and read other replies..................

Well Brook is the real deal. Jeff ain't no good ole boy, he don't chew tobacco and people think he is funny because their drivers are usually behind him as he takes the checkered flag.........or because he has how many Winston Cup Championships? :D

morninggirl, I understand and respect your opinion. Just thought you should know that. I don't necessarily agree with you but just the same I respect your opinion. :D

I'll take a poll with the Casey's gang in the morning. It could take all day to get an answer though.

Chuckus,

I could forgive numbers 1-6..... but number 7, never!

I can never be accused of jumping on the G*&^*% hater's bandwagon. I was at the head of the pack after his 5th Winston Cup race.

I respect his talent as a driver, and I'd never wish anything bad to happen to him, but I'd have a huge party if he'd go back to open wheels from whence he came.

Hell yes, finding that Nascar gray area in the rule book is a requirement. You just gotta be able to get your "modification" past Gary Nelson.

He's at the top of the points now. Check back in a couple of months.

Oh, and look at last year, his first full season without Ray..... those wins and top finishes were few and far between. Losing Ray and the Rainbow Warriors did make a huge difference. Just like any other driver, without a top crew chief and crew, you aren't going to win the Winston Cup.

I agree.. it happens in every sport.. it's called a rebuilding year. and now he's back on top.

For now, Jarrett is still very strong and Labonte can't be counted out.

Care to discuss the Tony Stewart situation?

If anything he should be commended for coming back strong after losing his entire team. I guess that goes to show it's the man and not the machine.

Unless the man is a myth that his fans will follow blindly,

"Tell me Jesus what you think about your friends at the top,
and who you think besides yourself is the king of the crop..."

My guess would be is that he looks good in a pair of speedos with his lips wrapped around certain wealthy spons-

Um. Cause he's a jerk. Erase that last part, I never said it. No way I'm implying that anything like that happened.

But the boy didn't do too well with the EXACT same equipment last year. He won two out of the first five races after Ray left the team, but Ray already had those cars prepared for the track.

(Damn I miss TNN, finding these stats was waaaayyy too hard.)

The Evernham Years (final race 1992-Dover fall 1999) 216 races, 47 wins one win every 4.6 races

Post Evernham (Dover 1999-present) 58 races, 8 wins, one win every 7.25 races

Post Evernham equipment (2000-present) 51 races, 6 wins, one win every 8.5 races

The crybaby has talent, but the Wonder Boy just ain't the same without Ray.
