the more likely we are to be taken from here with a "juvenile" disease.
My parents are both ill............
My Mom has type I juvenile Diabetes, she was diagnosed at age 37.
My Stepfather is fighting a long battle with Lukemia.
One of the types commonly found in children.
He had a spinal stem cell transplant Labor Day Weekend of 2000.
His system responded well for about a year, then he got sick and one of his doctors gave him an Anti-biotic that destroyed every single white blood cell in his body.
I last saw my stepfather on Halloween, he was doing okay then.
Since, his body has stopped producing new blood cells of any kind at all. Weekly transfusions and twice a day injected drugs are now a way of life for him, as well as also contracting Diabetes through mismanged blood sugar while in the hospital.
My stepfather has been giving my mother her injections every day for the last 19 years or so, my Mom can't even look at a needle, let alone inject herself with one.
He has been the stability for her for so long..........now I fear that his time left on earth is growing shorter each day.
I'm glad that we were able to see them Halloween, now, I can't even go see my parents, because of my children and the possibility of carrying an infectious bacteria or other bug onto their home.
THIS SUCKS for me on so many levels.
I get frustrated whenever my 4 year old says he wnts to go see Grandma and I have to calmly and unemotionally explain to him that we can't. Four years old will never understand, or remember that Grandpa is sick and that we may not be able to go see him again. My Mom won't us visit because of the same reasons I can't visit their home.
Now try and explain to a not quite two year old who walks around yelling Gamma, go bye-bye Gamma's house, that we can't.
I sit here and I think to myself, Thank God for my wifes parents so that we at least have a grandma's house we can go to.
Then I feel guilty, because My Mom and Stepfather haven't seen my almost Two twin daughters in over three months, except for a brief half hour visit during Christmas. The last time they saw them each had barely a 20 word vocabulary, now they both speak in sentences most of the time. And every day they add 5 to 10 words to their little brains.(scary huh)
btw if you have a two year old, do they speak in sentences yet?
If the time does come I think I will need to talk with my Mom, and insist on a visit for my kids, Just so they can tell their Grandpa goodbye themselves.
just ranting, sorry.
