Why is everything moderated here?

New to the site.
Just wanted a place to post quick stories to share with my community but the amount of hoops this place makes you go through is a bit unnerving XD.

I'm genuinely curious by the way.

Why is everything so strenuous to do? Something as simple as posting an avatar for instance. I'll still try my hand at writing but hearing that it takes 24-48 hours to get posted is a bit demoralizing when I want to quickly share the stories with my community.

American site.

America is becoming increasingly conservative about anything having to do with sex.

(Much easier to buy a gun or chop people up in a video game than to describe or depict sex.)

The internet hosts crime and criminals of all kinds and is/will become increasingly surveilled.

The owners obviously want to stay in business, but the business environment for anything “ internet sex” related in the USA has an ever growing target on its back, so they have to put more hoops in place to cover their asses.

My opinion.
Hmmm...
Is it though?
I thought Pornhub was American until I looked it up and it turns out it was Canadian.
I mean... was the place always like this?

Anti-spam.

In the author thread there is a thread about comments and how long they take to show up, and there's a post in there noting that the delay is due to moderation that went into effect a few years back due to spammers.

Without moderation, the forum would get a few hundred thousand posts a day full of random text, links to .ru sites to sell shoes, and pictures of young women named candy, mandy, and sandy as their profile images...
- Which I've seen happen before.

The forums are run by a very old version of an open source forum software. Likely because the process of upgrading requires more technical expertise than the site owners have. Older forum software means more modern technologies for auto-managing away spammers are not easy to put in. My guess is that a lot of 'vBulletin ' plugins probably don't work here or if they're here, can't be updated anymore. Which means the moderation solution needs to be more 'brute force' of moderating people until they've proven themselves. That's just a guess though.

But it's not just the forum that's got heavy moderation tools.

Everything on the site from being accepted as a user to posting works.
Accessibility is the name of the game when it comes to expanding userbases...

If you give a lot of barriers to entry the userbase will decrease over time.

and yet the site's been active 20+ years.
do you think that, perhaps, they're doing things the way they do and it works? The whole system's just been massively upgraded. To steer clear of all the American laws re acceptable online content, there have to be rules and protocols. And it's FREE. Free to post on the forums, free to publish your writing and (potentially) broaden your work's readership.

i've been here about 13 years and have seen the same comments you make made by plenty of other newcomers so eager to get their work seen.

Am I wrong about it being an old version of forum software? I got that from a post in another thread, but that post I think was a year old.

There are still a whole lot of reasons for moderation to be a good idea. I noted spammers, you noted laws. We're both just touching the surface of good reasons. I'd rather have that moderation and slight delay than see the place vanish.

they just recently did a whole upgrade. what it's based on, though, i don't know but it'll be in the site news and tech support forum, under the updates posted by manu

exactly. sometimes i'm here a lot (often weather-related), sometimes hardly at all, but it's my goto site above any other.

Sigh...Y'all make me feel my age!

Had you been here during the "Troll" days mixing into the Political Trolling and the spammers you would well understand the moderating way of things and the rules and regulations.

The General Board was just about worthless with so many trolls that well it just wasn't worth it.
Hundreds if not Thousands of good people Left.

There is a difference in having a thick skin and being attacked like a Bomber over Berlin during WWII every time you show up.

There's plenty things in life that aren't perfect and Lit is a likeable uncle, bumbling along and muttering to himself but always welcoming. If it's not for you then that's a shame, but it gets over 1k stories posted pw so clearly it's still popular.
So the bar has knackered sofas and flock wallpaper, the toilets don't flush properly and there's a cat with one eye that wanders round and sprays on the furniture, but there's usually some friendly faces and a spare seat at their table. Slow down, bring your beer over and join in.

I really miss when Unregistered posted frequently. S/he could be so caustic sometimes.

I wonder...
I am new you're right. I'm only speaking from experience when it comes to registering and creating content on other adult platforms. Pornhub, xhamster, and other adult forums like klubexile.

I appreciate the site and don't mean to sound like I don't.

That doesn't change the fact that I think the heavy moderation will overall disincentivize new users however. I was almost filtered and that's what caused the thread.
