Why is Anonymous allowed to rant?

I have written what my be my last story for this site after ten years of scattered writings, a couple of story requests and getting to know a number of fans.

My last two submissions may not be the work of Stephen King or Willie Shakespeare but to have to put up with the ranting of "Anonymous" who can't even write his name.

Not registered but willing to bash every writer out there. Out of 15 comments, 14 from Anonymous and 11 of those were attacks on the writer. Be constructive or be gone, sign your comments if you’re going to make them.

Other wise kiss my ass! Your comments mean nothing if you’re not willing to sign them.

When Literotica wakes up and figures out that allowing Anonymous comments does nothing but run fledgling authors off that might someday become great writers.

When I first signed up it was my understanding this site was here to encourage erotic writers not run them off. So the next time you pussy whipped dildoe you want to sign off as Anonymous just turn off your computer, you don't deserve to be here.

I feel your pain.

That said, if writing is what you want to do, you're going to have to develop a thick skin. It's the nature of the beast. Some will love your work, some will be indifferent to it, and some will think it trash.

Change your mindset to writing for yourself, instead of writing for someone else, and it won't bother you near as much.

If it's that easy for Anon to run you off, then they've won, haven't they?

True enough, I and I will not fade away gracefully, the question is why does Literotica allow it any more? And who do I complain to?

Sorry just wanted to bitch slap the wimp and the sad thing is he won't read this and won't believe its about him if he does.

Thanks for your support.

If we disallowed Anon, I fear our comments would shrink to near zero, and there really isn't any use in complaining.

If a comment is purely a personal attack, and has nothing to do with the story, then delete it with a clear conscience. If there is some constructive criticism in the comment, no matter how painful it is to read it, then I leave it - well, actually I leave all idiotic comments, simply because they're amusing to me.

Just because they post a comment as anonymous doesn't mean they have nothing of value to say. Some are just vicious attacks, of course, but some also hold some valuable critique. None of us are perfect, after all. ;)

Let me guess: you write in the Loving Wives category, right?

You can always turn off comments if that gets to you.

Unfortunately it's a reality of the site that you get to see all manner of ew if only because it's uncensored.

You can delete the comments and ignore the feedback if you so choose.

I was a bit surprised by the virulence of certain level of insult, but ultimately I find the badly spelled and inaccurate insults to be amusing in the long run. I haven't deleted a comment yet and there are some doozies.

The really horribly misspelled ones are my faves. :D

I agree, though, that it would be a better site if you had to register both to vote and comment publicly. Those who want to get their kicks out of anonymous skewering could still send you a private e-mail and PM to get their kicks.

The quality of the Web site would only be enhanced by making both the voting and the public commenting responsible, I think. If the voting rate average came down, it might actually start to approach the more realistic and believable.

Dr Bull, don't let anyone dictate what type of writter you are weather it's anonomous or in person. The web environment produces so called experts that doesn't really mean jack. Trolls or not, people online like to think they are bigger then they really are. Even the published authors most likely work in other jobs, and may criticize your stuff if they are just in a bad mood. Take any comments with a grain of salt. The only person your work should matter to is you and you alone.

I love creative comments regardless of the source. I'd appreciate any comment told with finese'.

Literotica is a big ass website and if you find something better go for it. I have storybooks of stuff washed down the tubes in these little sites that closed down. Nonetheless, I keep on writting because it's just something I simply enjoy doing.

And if you do find some solid website with a large adult humor loving community let me know and I'm out of here.

Hehehe, I enjoy the misspelled ones about grammar! I've actually read a few of those (thankfully not on my stories, hehehe).

Have to agree, if you allow comments, you open yourself up to the beast that is Anonymous. In some ways I do want to hear everything, good or bad...and for some reason people feel more prone to write bad things if they can be anonymous (although with todays technology, I'm sure there are IP stamps on each comment so in essence, people are not truly anonymous)...

Is that chair scraping and shoe shuffling I hear as Lit. posters pour out of the forum in panic?

Another take on anonymous comments

A fair number of my submissions are in the non-consent category, and on some of those, nearly all my PCs praising the stories are anonymous. Some people just don't want to put their names (or pseudonyms) on, "Oh my god, that was a hot rape fantasy!"

When it comes to criticism, I agree that there are a lot of people who take advantage of their invisibility to just piss on people for amusement.

Others, though, might make earnest, constructive criticisms that they might keep to themselves if they had to give their identity, out of fear of making enemies, or what have you.

It's not a perfect system, but I'm not in favor of disallowing anonymous comments across the board. It seems to work alright, allowing authors to delete PCs they don't think are fair.

You know, you can turn off anonymous comments by going to this page: http://www.literotica.com:81/members/main_options.php

I personally take heart in the fact that the horrible spelling and grammar of those known as TROLLS is a tribute to my story.

After all, we write sexy stories here. So can they help it if they have to type with one hand while they stroke themselves with the other. That coupled with the fact their keyboard has stuck keys from gobs of goo landing on it and drying, thereby rendering those keys next to useless.

There are a few in Anonymous land who could actually write a story themselves if they weren't too busy trolling. I got one feedback comment in my email that when cut and pasted into Word, filled three pages.

There wasn't a coherent sentence in it and the first paragraph, about twenty Word lines long, was entirely one sentence. I wish I'd kept it. Somewhere throughout the three page rant, I got the impression he was offended by the fact that I'd write a story about his wife. WTF! I had no idea I'd fucked his wife. And more than once too.

I hope it was good anyway. It must have been mind blowing for me not to remember it.

Anyway. Be entertained by them, rant about them or whatever, but don't leave. Like Cloudy said, If you leave, then they've won.

MJL

I love the ones that say things like...you write silly story...and half those words are misspelled.

If writing is something you want to do professionally, you do really need to have a thick skin. If it's something to do for your own pleasure, then do it for your own pleasure and ignore the comments or turn them off. I found that a lot of the criticism that I have received has actually helped me become a better writer.

Good luck anyway with what you do. :rose:

You should be happy. You've gotten your first troll. Congratulations!!!! :rose:

What IS it with the Loving Wives category? Why does that seem to be the site of all the idiots?

I personally find some of my favorite stories in that category, so I want to start posting there more. And Literotica even e-mailed me confirmation that it is the correct place for the type of stories I want to write. I don't want to be "chased out" into Group Sex because of the anon morons.

Why do most of the idiots on this site go to Loving Wives? (That's not a rant or a hypothetical question--I'm genuinely curious!)

The theory is that many of the hateful posters are guys that have had a spouse or girlfriend sleep around on them. They can't get over it, and so those types of stories are real to them.

But that's just one camp...

Then you have the ones that are mad if the woman doesn't have her entire life torn down around her.

Then there are the ones that are mad if the woman does have her life torn down around her and there's even the remotest suggestion that the man caused her to stray.

Then there's a few that will zero vote anything without a pregnancy involved.

Then there are the cuckolds and the people who hate them.

Just go ahead and write it *laugh* Don't expect to score well, although it is possible. Expect hateful comments from at least one of the camps, and laugh at them.

Sometimes, buried in the vitriol and hate, you will find some constructive things, though. The commenters in LW will pick a story apart line by line. Their comments may be longer than your story. While not all of it may be relevant, you can't help but find something useful in a comment that long, unless it's one endless attack on you, a lifestyle, or whatever.

I honestly don't MIND bad comments...as long as they give something to work with I can apply that (maybe) to my next story. As long as people say WHY they didn't like the story it doesn't bother me. I have had several negative comments to my stories, but all of them offered something they didn't like that I could work with.

The one above was just useless...not even sure why they bothered to click the "email author" link.

Mine's in the 4.7s too, but I attribute it as much to dumb luck as any skill.

Gettin' over the flu and stressing over the deadline on the ARS chain *laugh*

Otherwise, passable.

Handsome? :: checks profile :: Yeah, my pic's still up there... You must not have seen it *laugh*

I feel all overlooked like now. The comments on the only LW story I've got sidetracked onto Mel Gibson's nationality and never recovered to swipe the story. :D
Mind you the score hovers just under/over 4, depending on how long ago a sweep was done.

Darkniciad,
Thanks for the well-thought out answer! I'm thinking of just going into Group Sex and pretending my characters aren't married! LOL

Lit should start a category for married swingers...because those kind of stories are kind of stuck between loving wives and group sex. Either that or I'll just add a random fifth character and put it in the Group character with a clear conscience. Hmm...that could be funny...some dark, random, well-endowed man appears, does his thing, and vanishes into the shadows. LOL

Can someone clarify the Loving Wives category for me, maybe? It is.. anything going on with married people, other than one-on-one couplings, right? So not just cheating wives, but threesomes and the like?

Sorry for being so new and stupid. LOL

I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and agree with most. I was blasted by a fool who gave no feed back. His inability to articulate the problem with my prose should have given me an inkling of his lack of education.

There now I feel better.

I agree Tara; Loving wives should be just about anything in a married couples lives outside the missionary position. Perhaps it would be best to have a stranger watch from afar and make it an E&V, it is sad to be chased from an area you like to write in by troll & fools.
