Why I write

Gentle Reader

Since I cracked the “100 barrier,” there are, as I type, 103 Literotica readers who “follow” me (I’m still not sure what that means), I thought I would follow in my favorite author’s (Stephen King) example and write a little explanatory letter. I suppose, in part, I’m reacting to the comments made to some of my stories. In part, though, I just like to write and so here goes.

As I type I am 73 years old. I have been writing this type of story, not necessarily porn but definitely with plenty of sex, for years as a kind of a hobby. When I discovered Literotica I found an outlet. I think, by and large, you, Gentle Reader, enjoy them. Almost every story I have published here has at least one of those little hearts indicating it’s a “favorite.”

I think erotica is a different thing than porn. Erotica involves sharing, mutual enjoyment, and much MUCH more than just the sex. There is the relationship that develops. There is the detail, the surroundings, the descriptions, the word pictures, far beyond “her hairy pussy smelled good.” There is the conveyance of emotion, and I am of a generation that believes even the coarsest one-night stand involves more than just a physical event.

Some of these stories are pure fantasy. Some are the description, sanitized of course, of events I experienced. Some are autobiographical. I leave it to you to decide which is which.

Finally, for those of you who choose to bitch about whether this “adds up,” or that is “realistic,” all I can say is, get a grip. If you aren’t interested in watching Becky and the guys at ABC Fraternity as their relationship develops, DON’T READ IT. If you think descriptions of scat or violence or submission or whatever are disgusting, DON’T READ THEM. If you think David is a bad person for suggesting Millie go off of her meds, QUIT READING ABOUT THEM. You are wasting your time and energy writing comments stating your objections. I just don’t care. No, that’s not quite right, I read them, but I won’t be ending storylines or altering my style.

Here’s the thing. I write these to please me. I enjoy the writing, the reminiscence, and crafting a good story. I am reminded of J.R.R. Tolkein when asked about the metaphors in The War of the Ring. He said, paraphrasing here, “I only wanted to see if I could write a really long story that would hold people’s attention.” Now, while I don’t hold myself in Tolkein’s league (Frodo Lives!), I think that statement pretty much summarizes how I feel. And so far, it seems to be working. Even those who write comments telling me how bad the story is are obviously captivated enough to keep reading, so I count that as a win.

Don’t worry. There will be plenty more. Becky’s story has always fascinated me. David and Millie’s coming to grips with her compulsion is, I think, an interesting story. Margie’s needs, and how they get satisfied, make for a good story as well. How David and Abby’s relationship develops, David’s submission to Sammi, the way Doris is slowly sublimated to David while becoming, in her own right, the leader of a new group, all make for interesting stories.

To be honest, in many cases I’m curious to see how things work out myself. The stories that are autobiographical, of course, hold no surprises for me. The relating of real events helps me enjoy enjoyable memories. But mostly, I write for an audience.

And so, thank you, Gentle Reader. If you like my stories, please leave favorable reviews. Maybe someday I can figure out how to monetize this hobby and offer stories outside the allowable limits of Literotica.

And for now, well, I’m curious. I think something is going on at the Order. Shall we see?

Very well put Graduate. And the mental exercise of mapping plot twists, developing characters and finding the right word for a situation helps keep the brain agile for those of us in the senior set!

As far as monetizing, that can be done as long as you don't expect more than roughly minimum wage for the many hours you put in. But keep in mind that paysites generally have even tighter limits than Literotica, because they have to satisfy payment processors. I will be happy to share my experiences in PM...

Congratulations! You have me by five years.

I hope your on-going journey is fruitful.
