Of course the flip side of this, is that WE will be melting in the car in a few months. :)

I left a half full cup of Coke in the cup holder of my car last night... when I went out to my car this morning it was a Coke-sicle.

Nice try and oh Gosling, your box is full....and not of chocolates.

Waddaya mean, nice try? They did. Godiva truffles, too, dammit!

People here think 30 is soooo cold *whine*. My question is, does the snot freeze in your nose? No? Then it isn't cold. (I used to live in a very northern climate.)

I grew up in the NorthEast where we had real winters. Don' really miss the snot freezing so much. :)

The first time I saw school - a university, no less - cancelled on the *prediction*, not the presence, of a quarter inch of snow, I and my friend from the Northeast spent the day snow-dancing (it never showed up) and rolling our eyes. Yeesh. Can you see the bus through the blizzard? Then get in it. School's not closed.

We had school called once on account of the temperature..If I recall correctly, it was about 20 below with the wind chill and had managed to turn the oil in the busses to slush. At least that was the story we got..

LOL!

Living in Ohio, I'm sure I don't understand the severity of cold and ice and snow.

But we get our fair share.

Shanglan, the, "Can you see the bus through the blizzard? Then get in it. School's not closed." part of your post reminded me of my senior year of high school. :D

It was snowing like crazy, with snow 6 inches deep all over the place.
School was not canceled, and I was pissed! lol.
I just get onto the road, and I'm already fish-tailing. I didn't even have my foot on the gas!
So anyways, the 3 minute drive to school took 20.
I found out once I got there that 2 buses had had 'minor accidents'.

As I watched, proabably 8 or 9 students went to turn into the parking lot, and they spun around, missing the drive, and blocking on-coming traffic.

And, to top it off, the secretary wanted to put me down as tardy.
Ooooohh, Kitten had a discussion with the principal. :D

I basically called the superintentent a moron for not cancelling school.
Oh. And informed him I was not to be counted as tardy if the roads were bad.

:D

Wouldn't you know, I was never counted as tardy again...
..And school was canceled if there was an inch of snow on the ground.
(Not that that was my doing.. A lot of irate parents and students confronted him.) :)

Come on bad roads, so I don't have to go to work! :D LOL. :p

My boyfriend called me up at 3am one night to come pick him up because it was so cold the diesel fuel in his car had gelled. The west coast is much easier.

Is -50 C cold?

Our schools closed only once and that was due to three or four feet of snow that was dumped in 1970 or so - record snowfall yo say the least. The schools have been open through -40 weather.

I was raised in Wisconsin and 30F in January was considered to be warm. On those rare occasions when the temp reached that point, we wondered if we were having an early spring.

It was fun as a kid but I would never go back to live in that kind of a climate now. Where I live now, 30F is considered cold. It has been a long time since my car has skidded on ice or wouldn't start because of cold or water pipes froze. I don't miss that.:)

I also live in the good 'ol OH state. I had to go to college last year when the roads were really bad and got into a major car accident. It totaled both cars, but neither myself or the other driver was seriously hurt. That was a very very bad time and now I hate the snow.

It is, objectively, uninhabitable here for part of the year. Not Labrador, mind you, but we do all right. The thing is, you can do something about it.

I go to the DR, as most of you know, and my objection is that it doesn't even cool off at night there. It is supposed to cool off at night. That's the rules. Inescapable heat is just draining. Foul.

It gets hot here, some days, never for as long as ten, usually three or four. But it has the good grace to cool off when the sun goes down.

It is true, of course, that when you live in Maine or Labrador or Wisconsin or even Ohio, you know it will be cold and you take precautions. Houses are well insulated and equipped with storm windows and home furnaces operate at heavy duty and you have warm clothing and you keep your car filled with anti-freeze. Even so, you can't do anything about the roads being impassable because of snow or getting lost in a blizzard or needing to melt an inch of ice off your windshield before you can go anywhere. That is why I live in California where it never gets really hot or really cold.

Ice scraper

Much nicer to live where you are running the AC in the car while doing your Xmas shopping..

See, the thing is, if he'd just been out ten minutes earlier and turned the car on first, it would have defosted by the time he wanted to leave.

But then we're not all that clever are we????

I know, I know, why let the truth get in the way of a good yarn!!!!

True though, yet some people put themselves through that every morning!!!

It's December, and I was wearing shorts and a tee-shirt out today. I'm going to miss New Mexico "winters."
