Story here:

When WikiLeaks released more than 8,000 files about the CIA’s global hacking programs this month, it dropped a tantalizing clue: The leak came from private contractors. Federal investigators quickly confirmed this, calling contractors the likeliest sources. As a result of the breach, WikiLeaks editor Julian Assange said, the CIA had “lost control of its entire cyberweapons arsenal.”

Intelligence insiders were dismayed. Agencies “take a chance with contractors” because “they may not have the same loyalty” as officers employed by the government, former CIA director Leon Panetta lamented to NBC.

Austerity and privatization of services goes a bit far when your spies are part time independent contractors.

Really? What do you think would happen?
If the federal government collapsed, we would become fifty states and a few districts and territories.

A lot would change in terms of national defense and interstate trade, but sadly, you aren't going to need your bunker and arsenal.

We?

Are you an American that's UK based?

Or just another foreigner fascinated by the American political system?

Mmmhmm...and there would be varying degrees of success at control.

Some states would become the wild west again very quickly.

Some would just watch it on TV never really understanding whats happening outside their little bubble.

Me? No, I live way to far out in the middle of nowhere..
There will be some cities however that would go 3rd world though.

Does this mean you are conceding wiki didn't get the stuff from the Russians?

Never thought they did. They might have gotten some other stuff from the Russians. By and large I've always admired Wikileaks. Daniel Ellsberg was a hero. How is Julian Assange not a hero?

Julian Assange is not fit to polish Daniel Ellsberg's boots.

He's a reckless megalomaniac out for his own self-aggrandizement. You can also add rape to the list of charges against him.

And please spare us the diatribe over how he's being framed by the Swedish government.

All branches of gov't, except the Executive, the media were dominated by Democrats and America-hating radicals. Ellsberg was only a hero to the America-hating left.

 George McGovern was an America-hating radical?

Latest revelations by Wikileaks:
US embassies have been buying spying tools,
"American spies seem to be especially active (or careless) in Latin America."

MY COMMENTS:

1. Another unilateral disclosure about the US, given that all countries engage in espionage.
They seem to target the US. (The other explanation - that only American whistleblowers or leakers tend to contact them, none from other countries, isn't plausible.)
So who's financing them?

2. "American spies seem to be especially active (or careless) in Latin America"
This is particularly interesting, given the bubbling unrest in several countries, and the latest speculations regarding the involvement of Venezuela in the Honduras caravan.
