Why does Walz do the Namasté gesture?

I know World leaders were adopting Namaste during COVID-19 instead of shaking hands. Does or has Walz ever practiced yoga? Namaste is a ubiquitous greeting in Yoga classes. It means I am bowing down to the divine in you.

Why did you decide to start this ridiculous thread?

I looked online and saw no information as to why Walz uses the gesture. He is running for VP and I want to know everything I can about him before he gets my vote. I thought someone in here might know.

THAT'S the kind of information you're going to base your vote on? Maybe you shouldn't be voting. Even if you would vote the same as I would.

Better that than this "gesture:"

Seems Walz has got the good version going, does it matter his reason?

Sooooo much better than the alternatives.

That's not what I'll base my vote on. But I believe it is good to know what makes a candidate tick, and not base everything about them on what they say.

It might.. Above and beyond that while it is not unique it is unusual and that piques my curiosity. there may be an interesting story on when, how, where, and why he picked up that habit.

As far as I know it's a gesture of humility and gratitude, recognizing the presence of the divine within ourselves and in others. Nothing wrong with that these days. Peace and love to all of you here! 🙏 💗
Yes, that is essentially what the gesture conveys.

You’re likely reading way too much into that hand gesture.

I’ve known many people who do that when being introduced for some accolade or thanking an audience for their presence.

I want to say that Ed Sullivan and other entertainers of that era were well known for doing it.

👍

Side note:

I actually find that gesture to be a sign of humility and genuine gratitude.

👍

🇺🇸

(ETA: You will NEVER see Trump make that gesture.)

I'm curious as to Tim Walz's use of it.. That is the extent of my reading into it..

Um, yeah…

I provided you with some context about how the gesture is NOT anything to concern yourself about.

👍

Also:

It’s about the most innocuous and benign gesture a person could make.

👍

It seems like you’re concerned about Tim Walz being a covert Buddhist-Hindu-Manchurian candidate for "some" reason.

🤔

Side note:

After some research: It appears that this has become an issue among the racist MAGAts who are questioning not only Tim Walz’ loyalty to America, but also the loyalty of Kamala Harris .

🤬

I suppose the fact that Tim Walz taught English in China for a few years, and the fact that Kamala has Indian heritage, resulted in the triggering of the paranoid racist gene in the MAGAts, and caused this weird level of "concern" about a fairly common / universal gesture.

🤬

I can only imagine what the MAGAts would be "concerned" about if Kamala had chosen Josh Shapiro as her running mate.

🤬

It’s a way to pantomime “thank you”, like waving is how we pantomime “goodbye” or nodding is how we pantomime “yes”

We haven’t had a gesture that means “thank you” before now, so the Namaste gesture fills a gap.

I said the same in my OP as you did

Agreed

Not at all.

I believe Harris/Walz are 100% loyal to America. Tump on the other hand not so much.

That is where he probably picked it up. Zen Buddhism is common in China with maybe as many as 33% practitioners and the gesture is common among Buddhists.

Maybe so I don't waste my time trying to figure out what makes MAGAs tick.

It's interesting to note that some cultures use hand gestures to convey meaning as to the person. For instance, there are 3 common and historic hand gestures which are used when greeting another.

Hands together as if in prayer (the "namaste gesture") conveys the symbolism that the one using the gesture is a scholar only and therefore a non combatant in all things.

One hand open with a fist against the palm conveys that the one using the gesture is a scholar and a fighter by which the scholar controls the fighter.

2 fists conveys that the one using the gesture is only a fighter.

Following these historic rules, since Walz was a soldier, it is inappropriate for him to use the scholar's greeting in certain social settings.

We all know what greeting is appropriate for you…

I know, but you constantly kissing my ass isn't generally acceptable in a public setting among strangers.
Not really the correct gesture for you, funny you would imagine it was… not generally something a person who looks forward to promotion as WalMart greeter would be afforded.

Traitor Tater has been hoping for it his whole life, but instead it’s hashbrowns and fries all the time.

But you're SO GOOD AT IT.

Must be because of all the practice you get from doing it. Not that I'm complaining, your constant adulation is cute.

Reading comprehension continues to be an issue for you, do they have a GED for elementary school?

You need it, because you aren’t any where near smarter than a 5th grader.
