Why do you write?

I enjoy many of the stories posted here at Lit and was wondering why the authors write them. Do you get off writing these stories? Do you hope others get off reading them? Or do you just enjoy the art of writing and having others read it?

For me personally it was the challenge of writing Erotica. It wasnt the porn factor. I love to write and thought, "Well lets see if I can do this". I'm not as skilled as many here, but it's a learning process.
Plus it's therapy.

I came to Lit. because I wanted to see if I can write sex stories. Stayed here because it's a great place for learning. And then I'd miss those ego boosting feedback mails. :D

Well, you haven't read anything of mine, because I haven't finished up my first story yet, but I have no intention of stopping. So I'm going to tell you my reasons, even though I'm not technically an author here... yet.

For starters, yes, yes, and yes. That is, I get aroused in the process of creating my stories, and I certainly hope others do as well, and I also write for the love of creative writing in general. I've always loved to write, and just recently I've discovered I have a knack for erotica. This comes more easily to me, and is more fulfilling. No matter what I write, my wit always comes through, so I know that whatever I write, I am making people laugh (or I've tried anyhow.) But with erotica, I feel as if it's a more complete storytelling, it's filling more of a need. Plot is one of my weaker points in writing, but with erotica it's somewhat less necessary and a good deal easier to come up with, for me. There is a need to write within me, and there always has been; finding erotica has been a blessing because I finally have a way to write that I feel I can truly express myself.

I started writing onLit as a dare - when I received the great feedback, I wrote another - when a few feedbacks actually said to keep writing and not to stop, I did another. I became addicted to writing erotic stories.

I play the stories out in my head as a fantasy while masturbating or during actual sex - if I get off on them, I write them down.

My editing sucks, but I am trying to get better at doing that.

I stay as well, because the people you meet are wonderful, talented and kind.

I wrote my story that is here on Lit as a challenge from a girl I know online. She asked if I could write erotica and I didn't know. I think it came out pretty good, but it is a long way from my comfort zone as a comedy and horror writer.

I intend to write more erotica eventually, but time just isn't allowing for it right now.

I don't yet have a story posted either. I'm just leading up to the 'climax', as it were.

I write just because I have things I want to say.

And like Abtruse, it's also good therapy.

why I write

I write because it relaxes me and I enjoy it. I like reading other peoples storys.

I write for many reasons, some of them foolish, and some not so foolish.
I write becaue it allows me to verbalise my fantasies. It also allows others to see my fantasies and maybe see that theirs aren't as outlandish as they may have thought.
I started writing here because the people here seemed willing to read my stories, and I enjoyed the stories others have written. Now I stay here because I am learning from the rest of you. Currently I'm working on a story which I may or may not post, we shall see. If I do post it, the blasted thing will have to be in installments because of it's length. Even if I don't post it, those who will have seen it, (and I will be sending it to some of you out there,) will have been able to see how my mind works, and maybe comment on it to me. (Hint, it's about a couple dealing with the wife being diagnosed with and beating cancer, and their learning from the experience. It's slow going because of my having to deal with this subject every day in work.)
Now I write to cleanse myself, and to put my thoughts in perspective.
Oh yeah, I read the stories here to get ideas, advice, and of course to get me and my wife off. (Thanks people, since I started coming to this site my wife has turned into the Nympho of the year, and I'm not complaining.)

Is this a trick question?
I write for many different reasons. When I first came to Lit I wrote to clear my mind. It was more like a therapy thing the more I wrote about a topic the faster I could dispose of such fantasies. It may be a catch 22 but if you fantasize about a topic long enough you become bored with it and move to a different fantasy.

Some times I write stories just to see what kind of feedback I can generate. It is almost like a big game with thousands of little people all playing along and only I know the true game. That is mostly when I am bored I can get a cheap thrill from the stupid feedback. Sadistic in a sense maybe but it is fun. I guess more so trickery, but there again damn I am good at it. After all this is the world wide web never believe anything you read and only half of what you see.

Do I get off on what I write sometimes it is arousing to recall certain memories. But the honest answer would be not really. My real life is far more entertaining than a Lit story. I know that seems far fetched so I could never write the real stories no one would believe it.

As far as the others go I know some of the stories drive literally thousands to write just to say how the yanked or dabled while reading. Horay! I guess, it really don't matter other than I know you believed it. That would be part of my game! The thrill of writing. If you spank to a story while reading it or not, it really don't matter to me.

Personally I would rathere irritate the reader the feedback is much more entertaining. Than the typical I want to fuck you silly that was a great story, crap!

I write both areas from a females perspective and from a males perspective and to be brutally honest I do much better as a female. I do quite well as a male character too. I have hit as high as 230 feedback letters on the first two days of posting a story. Yeah that is an ego trip and makes you want to write more of what the crowd wants.

Any way Blah blah blah, I write for fun mostly. Looking at the votes keeps you thinking how you can improve. Reading the feedback makes you ponder what the fuck people are thinking. And playing in the forums generates some really spastic ideas.

I find watching the boob tube to be utterly ignorant and sometimes I don't feel like reading so to write is like living out a dream in your mind that can be shared. The best part is today it can be shared secretly witholding your identity, on line.

The best part is when you get a letter from someone who shares what happened to them. Sometimes I wonder if it just might be someone I know or knew. Then I think man this person is twisted. I just wrote a fantasy and shit there is a hell of a lot of sick people spilling their lifes actions. To share why the story was so personal to them. That in it self makes great stories.

So just remember that next time you send a feedback to a new author. You never know.

Woo hoo, first post!

This is my first post, so sorry if I screw something up.

Well, my only story has not yet gone through, being that I submitted it yesterday. And it's my first erotica story anyway, so I don't have much experience with the style.

Having qualified my answer enough ;) , I'll say that I wrote the story because it would NOT get out of my head. It compelled me to write what was on my mind.

I don't get off writing it, so much, but thinking about it and figuring it out, yes. And if I were to get positive feedback from it and know that someone else liked it, that would definitely be motivation to write another.

I used to write PG-rated fiction, never even wrote about a kiss. Then I took a few years off due to writer's block, and this has been my first short story since then. This was an easy way to get back into writing because the plot is fairly simple--you have a limited number of options, your subject matter is very specific. As a result, what you're testing yourself on is your use of the language itself and such. It's a good writing exercise, I guess. ;)

Bohemian,

Good luck with your story! Wow, PG to erotic fantasy! LOL Can't wait to read it.

Honey

I began writing erotic fiction when a boyfriend and I were separated by 5,000 miles, and we used it as a way to keep each other entertained. Erotica by email.

He really liked some of mine, and encouraged me to get them published. That I haven't done, but I finally did start submitting some here (first one accepted a few days ago, another submitted, but not approved).

It's therapy, and also a way to inject some much-needed spice into a sometimes dull live, ya know?

He's written some very good stories. I've been a fan of his for ages.

Just do a search for him in the story search feature.

Hi Tyler! Great post, btw, and I understand a lot of what you're saying. :)
