*Rant*

Why do the majority of the threads in lit quickly drift off from the topic and start to read like a chatroom. Dont lit have a irc type chatroom. ? well stupid question cause it does indeed.

hijacking ... it happens ... i dont mind in most threads of mine at all when it does ... because most of my threads i try to just start off a conversation around a topic

but it can be annoying when i've seen it on some other more serious threads ... its perfectly not rude for the thread starter to come in and tell the hijackers to get back on topic and chat in another thread ... in my opinion :)

I find it annoying when it happens on a thread that I've enjoyed reading you get to a certain page then the topic goes out the window and its like you reading a chatroom conversation.

hijack it back.

When that happens, it's usually very easy to re-direct the conversation, especially if you are in a topic-focused discourse with another person. If you are the only one still talking about the original subject, it can be a lot more difficult. I think what I'd do in a situation like that is PM a friend and ask for assistance in the re-hijack.

But I am a huge fan of the hijacks. I enjoy participating in them tremendously, especially if the topic is un-serious to begin with. It becomes performance art. I do agree that there's really no need to hijack serious threads, though.

Does anybody know who the guest host is on Saturday Night Live tonight?

right on lil girl

:p

No, I dont know Glams

:p

I feel uneasy on hijacking threads back to original topic guess it cause of fear of being ignored or offending anyone.

True with what some of you have said some threads just deserve to be hijacked. Livens them up and gives people a chance to get to know one another better I figure.

Kind of like a intermission without the ice cream and pop corn break thou.

But I still think some of it will be best said in a chatroom or over a instant messenger program.

When I've been a round a bit longer I guess I'll be hijacking like everyone else.
*LOL*

There I think I contradicted myself three times in there.

:D

Been a while since I watched Saturday Night Live.

Damm this internet an lit addiction .lol.

I am guilty of hijacking and chatting my own damn self

:p

I have hijacked both my own and other threads back on topic before.

You just have to be creative about it.

Why not?

Sometimes a thread just runs its course.

Sometimes a thread is just dumb or annoying and people have fun with it.

Sometimes people get sidetracked.

Sometimes its really annoying when its a great thread (but, as mentioned, one can always get it back on track).

Sometimes it just happens - cause people will be people.

Quite possibly, but sometimes you just don't want to fire up MSN or whatever. So it's simply easier to start a thread or even hijack someone else's. It's fun too, when it's not a serious thread.

Threads are conversations. Some conversations evolve - others drift. The ones that do neither, die.

Now, this thought sounds absolutely ridiculous!

I am going to share it anyway. ;)

When I have been involved in hijackings, it often feels much like running into a friend in the grocery store.

"Aha! You're here! How are you doing?"

And on and on and on.....

What is ridiculous is that yes, there is IRC chat, pm's, IM's and so many other ways to meet.

Hmmmmm

I'm quite guilty of hijacking at times. It can be fun and it doesn't happen in the middle of very serious threads. Sometimes I'll try to bring the thread back to normal when I'm finished hijacking :)

Sexy-girl & I agree on this. It's perfectly all right, unless, I want the thread to be serious. I'm to much of a coward to tell people to knock it off. So, I just go with it.

hijacking

Never started a thread myself but I think it's the responsibilty of the starter or major regular participants to keep the thread on topic.

On a 'fuzzy' sort of thread its easy to pick out a little piece of action with someone and go with it. Got into a little exchange this afternoon re. the preservation of tomatoes although that was not the topic of the thread. Actually the thread didn't seem to have a particular direction so a minor 'hijack' improved it.

Starters should clearly state their issue or purpose so drifters can be brought to heel if need be. Hope fully a serious thread attracts serious replys and the responding population can keep the discussion on track.

A good thread is like having a serious conversation in a crowded room, the conversants have to stick together to keep the content intact.

Sorry for the *rant* people I have to admit i was feeling bitchy when I wrote it. Crap sort of day and all that.

The thing is I agree with a lot of what as been said in here ok im backtracking a little now *lol*
