Hey, Americans! Today's the day you get to exercise the grand prerogative of democracy: voting. That's right-- you get to choose which corrupt slimeball politician will oppress you, and betray you to the interests of big business, for the next two, four, or six years! (And last election, you didn't even get to do that!) Aren't you excited? Actually, most of you-- the overwhelming majority, in fact-- DON'T vote, in effect casting a vote of "no confidence" in the system. But for you true votaholics who just can't enough of the stuff, here's your chance to vote again, on the question: why do so many people NOT vote? I've given you as many options as I possibly can with this poll format. So come on, and stuff the ballot box in the grandest tradition of American politics, and vote, vote, VOTE! As a Chicago machine boss once said, "Vote early and often!"
:p

Apathy, dissilionment and an inability to spell 'X' covers most of them.

Then there are the ones who want to vote - but not for the candidates on offer.

And then there are all the great game shows and soap operas on TV to rot in front of.

Too busy posting on LIT

More people would vote if the TV stations shut down or just played patriotic music.

William Safire suggested the other day in the NYT that it might be a good idea to close all bars, theatres, stores, malls and other entertainment venues on Voting Day.

Surely a democracy deserves more than a 50% voter turnout, yes?

Why not close everything for the day... and take it seriously?

Bars are closed on Election day here.

Democrats now have to use ciggs...

I vote to make sure that the dangerous and subversive communist threat never again gains a foothold in our glorious government.

That and the free give aways!

In my district they are expecting a record turnout. With so many others doing the job this time, why should I have to as well?

Lance

I don't think it deserves to be taken seriously. It's all a game and sideshow to try to trick the masses into believing they have the power. The really important decisions are made behind closed doors, without any input from the public, mainly in corporate boardrooms . . .

I never get invited into those corporate bedrooms. No wonder I have no voice in our government. Are they nice bedrooms?

What? Oh, Boardrooms. Now I get it.

And I thought it was just more of your paranoia

Agreed that corporations spend a lot of money and hire expensive talent, great talent...talent like Me even (yay, Money!)... to get their own way from governments everywhere.

Isn't that all the more reason to make sure that the very best people are elected to run governments?

Not voting is quitting.

And a quitter never wins.

Why not move the voting machines to the Malls and the Bars:D

That might improve turnout

Here in Vegas, if you made the voting machines look like poker machines, you'd probably get close to 100% participation!

I wanted to vote, but when I got into the booth, I couldnt find the quarterslot to start the porn videos.

Quarters?

Man, are you out of it! Haven't you heard? They all take dollars now.

I just voted

And just for you, RED, I didn't vote a straight ticket. I wrote in one candidate.

So who was that, Raw?

It was just a County Commissioner. In the Republican Primary, they actually tied. The winner was chosen by... (pause for suspense...) putting both names in a hat and picking one.

I voted for the loser of the primary.
