Why do people sign their posts?

I think someone suggested as a way for people to figure out what you want to be called.

Personally, I thought that was what the Signature lines were for.

I do it only occasionally when the post seems to warrant it, and for whatever reason I blindly decide to personalize my post.

I do it because...

I had complaints about using smilies all the time and it doesn't seem right to leave a post hanging in mid-air.

Doesn't it annoy you?

I think I do it out of habit myself ... I won't do it here...just for you.

Sometimes I sign posts if they are very sincere or personal. I feel that it adds something to it. Sometimes a name makes things feel more personal.

Also... I started signing all of my posts during the stupid Pink Lady escapade.. That one sucked.

different folks, different strokes Lavy.

I don't sign my posts but I do sign my pm's cause I find them more personal.
so my answer is to make it more personal.

What she said.

i think it's because i'm new...and it's a habit..i usually sign the things i write...i don't know why...

I did it mainly because I always sign my name on email, and when I first came here, I didn't realizes the names were right there on the left.

Signatures for me are just a place to put quotes/links.

But I didn't know it bothered people so. Guess I'll stop?

Please. Do what you want; it's a signature for Christ's sake...how annoying could it be?

edited for crappy spelling

I find it mildly irritating myself, when I'm pissy. When I'm in a pissy mood and looking for something to get pissy over, I find it insulting. When I'm not pissy, I just think it's mildly ridiculous, just like those idiotic "Yay me! I've got {insert number here} posts!" posts. I mean really. The name is right there to the left, I already know who wrote it. Adding smilies and the name to the bottom doesn't equate to sincerity. It just equates to adding smilies and the name to the bottom.

Or am I just being antagonistic today? I think I'm being antagonistic today. I think it's because I've taken 5 showers and my hair still smells like eau du chain smoker. Next time I get a week off, I'm studying and can't visit the mom-in-law. I have to go get wet again. I hate being wet. Not that kind of wet, water wet. I don't like being watered on.

oh dear i dont do it ... is this the something i've not been doing that will ruin my chances of not being in any list's ? :)

Looks like you have saved yourself from Muff's list of things that annoy her, sexy-girl! ;) :D

I have wondered why people sign their posts. It seems rather silly, its not like we can't see who wrote it...but to each their own. It doesn't bother me. :)

I usually sign mine with a "V~" only because it irritates the hell out of Alex. :D

;)
V~

I’d rather see one name simply written under a post, than those sig lines that are many sentences longer than the content of a post.

[edited to say that I realized that sounded kinda bitchy..sorry about that...long day.]

Yep that's another reason why post signing is a gooood thing.

It stops me from reading those signatures as part of the post when the post doesn't read as though it's finished.

I've been confused many a time by that!

Sincere question. Why do you feel the need to sign your posts? It's simply never been a habit of mine. But more and more I see people doing this.

Lavy

Because we can.

Sig?

I thought about it to, because I always do and wondered if I was being stupid. I guess I do as a habit from talking on radios where " over " signifies the end of a thought. I always sign or initial any note I write to someone.

We should have a rule. ;)

Very occasionally I sign them to emphasise the sincerity of the content.

Because, quite frankly, a lot of the people here at Lit are idiots.
