Why do old ladies smell bad?

Really. The older they get, the more powder and cheap perfume they pour on.
The smell absolutely takes my breath away and almost makes me sick sometimes. I mean, I can be 5-10 feet away and it is overwhelming.

So, why do they do it? Don't they know they stink? Do they think they have other body smells that they have to cover up?

If you know some old lady, maybe a friend or relative, one who does this, would you please tell them to wash the toxic stuff off?

I'm offended!

Sorry

But I doubt if you are one of them.
You should not be offended just because you are a woman.

If men had this problem, I'd ask about them too, but they don't.

The sense of smell declines rapidly with age... to their diminished senses, they smell fine.

Invest in a clothespin for your nose.

Why do you only limit it to "old ladies"? IMHO it's far more offensive to be blinded and choked by anyone who bathes in cologne. This is an ageless and genderless phenomenon.

Same reason they use make up

Because they're ugly & they stink :D

I took a friend to Norms

last night for her birthday. It was senior night there.
Boy, did it smell bad.

The old lady in the next table had a bd too. We spoke to her and congratulated her, etc. I got nothing against old ladies, except the ones who stink.

If my mother, or a friend's mother, smelled that bad, I'd have a talk with her about it.

So, the women posters are offended by my post and think it's ok for old ladies to stink?

The scents that were popular in her youth are more than likely different from the scents available today. It's a dynamic business. The same scent she liked when younger may generally not appeal to people today.

And someone already said it - the sense of smell diminishes with age - therefore it takes more for HER to be able to smell it.

Frequently - Older people are on fixed incomes - perhaps they have to wear what they can afford or what is given to them. Maybe a gift from a cheap-assed ungrateful brat of a stingy kid.

Older people didn't commonly have the luxury of bathing once or twice a day, not to mention the time to do so. Perfume habit may reflect this.

Incontinence - wearing depends or the like may make some subconsciously slather on the scent.

As we age our body chemistry also can change. What may have smelled delightful on her in youth - may stink like shit in a wagon now. Because her sense of smell has diminished - she may not notice.

Lighten up on the ole broads.

Or I'll send one over to gum you up.

Could be a number of things, but I heard somewhere that with old people, their insides are already dying and so sometimes you can smell it rotting inside them. I'm not sure if it's true, but it's something to think about.

Are you kidding?

I'm not kidding. I really did hear that; I just never researched it myself. This really brainy guy said it on a TV show. lol.

Highly unlikely unless it's cancer. That stuff can stink.
Stinking because they are dying inside? Bulltwinkies.

Maybe they are changing inside

Oh, no, please don't sent one over to gum me!
On second thought, a gum job might be nice. I've done it once or twice.
(I heard Sue Johannson suggesting it to someone recently.)

A couple of things here might be the cause, like incontinence, lack of cleanliness, of chemistry changes.

And speaking of cancer, I know a woman in her late 50's who has had some type of cervical cancer, and has had chemo and radiation. She is one of the youngest people I know who have this problem. So, yeah, the comment about that may be accurate. And I like her otherwise and am praying for her, so it's not like I don't care.

And there was a strange family with a woman, her grown son, and husband shoping in the grocery store the other day. She smelled so bad I had to hold my breath within 20 feet and go to a different isle to keep from gagging.

It's something that has bothered me for some time and I had to ask about it.
Other people MUST have noticed this phemonon I would think?

Sorry. No offense was meant.I just wondered why you were looking
for problems with little old ladies with canes when theres much
more dangerous people to worry about in the world.Al Kheida for
instance.

I took it as a personal attack on me

The difference is that I don't have to smell Al Kheida every day in the stores.
I DO have to smell old ladies who make me sick with their strong smell.
I got a couple of ideas why they could be that way. That was my purpose of posting, not to trash old ladies. I like old ladies in general, just can't stand to be near many of them.

Now you can let this thread die please?
