Whenever there is a discussion on a website comparing cricket and baseball, cricket supporters always slag off on baseball with extremely derogatory comments. Baseball supporters on the other don't seem to waste their time demeaning cricket, they generally don't give a crap about it other to consider it rather odd or perhaps boring.

Why the cricket inferiority complex that makes fans and players react this way toward baseball?

I admit I am completely confused as to what is happening when I see a cricket match, but it doesn't seem that bad a sport I guess. Maybe a little boring but mostly just seems rather odd. I don't have any particular reason to hate it. I pretty much am indifferent toward it.

It is usually an instinctive response to a stupid question in which the questioner compares the two sports. Most followers of cricket are not aware of the subtleties of baseball (and the other way around). The question that gets the reaction is usually the "When did you stop beating your wife" type of question.

It is like asking those who enjoy a particular style of popular music why they hate classical music. Perhaps they don't. They might like both, and some 'classical' music was the popular music of its day.

I hate cricket! What a national waste of time and money (oh my god, the money that goes into the dumb sport).

I don't know baseball, but I bet I'd hate it too, if it involves a bat and a ball. (stick to gilli-danda!)

Football (what we call football in India), now that's a sport.

I have decided I like you.

Yeah, this is pretty much it. People don't know or appreciate the differences between the sports and/or what each one is really about. A cricket fan probably has no clue about 90% of the rules in baseball and vice versa.
To Americans cricket looks really gay. I just does. And the terminology strikes us as very funny. I'm sure the reverse is true in merry 'ol Gayland.

it's the same sentiment american football players feel towards real football, i reckon? ;)

Sorry, I have to disagree with some of the responses here. Even though I don't understand cricket, I would still rather watch that than people kicking a ball around aimlessly for 90 minutes.

LMAO. Yeah, cricket fans feel inferior to rounders. LMAO.

"...In rounders you can only hold the bat with one hand, the bats are smaller, no protection to anyone, no mound in the middle, the bowler bowls the ball under arm so its above the knee but below head height (me thinks), Rounders isn't as hard as girls tend to play it in school (or in my school they did... we moved onto netball again though) and there are other differences.

In baseball you can hold the bat with two hands the bats are longer, the players have protection from the ball (its hard and can get some serious speed when thrown or hit) mound in the middle for the pitcher, the pitcher has to pitch in between a certain height and a certain length and boys tend to play baseball- however it hasnt been unknown that girls have played it lots of times before...

You're a idiot and an ignorant one as cricket is the only sport you people can play.

Uhmmm, it's not aimless. If you look on both ends of the field there are these box like thingies that are not actually boxes, and they have like this net covering it on one side... it helps to catch the ball. And the people try to kick the ball into the box like thingie and when they do, it's called a goal, which funny coz it's also kinda the goal of the game.

As far as cricket in concerned, I say to the men- go titfuck someone! More fun than playing with a bat and a ball.

Thats crap and you're just trying to wind the yanks up. I'm a big cricket fan bit certainly don't look down on baseball. If I ever visit the states again I'll probably take in a game and buy a beer for a local and get the rules explained. I have a mild curiousity let's say.

Judging by the amount of rapes in India I wouldn't say thats a valid option. Maybe more cricket would take their minds off things.

They're both enjoyable games not to be taken too seriously. Arguing the superiority of one over the other is the stupid game.

So according to you raping is high in India due to lack of a suitable alternate pastime?

Don't respond... I say titfuck and you say rape. I bet you're from Delhi.

They don't... just American baseball fans figure them shouting louder and not listening meant they won.
