Why do cats shred your furniture?

Why do cats always choose to scratch and shred your furniture instead of their scratching post and "kitty condo"?

If you value your furniture, don't have cats.

Don't get me started on dogs, dogs just relieve themselves wherever and whenever they please. On rugs, carpeting, beds, sofas, anywhere!

Apparently they like to relieve themselves on my front yard. My yard is covered in dog poop.
